So it would seem the poor economy hasn't quite hit our friends at Universal Pictures. Exhibit A: I'm in Bora Bora. That's right, a few hours ago I finished a long trek that began in New York, took me to LA, then to Papeete via Air Tahiti (duh), on a connecting flight to Bora Bora, and finally a little boat ride to our absurdly idyllic backdrop for the junket that's about to get underway.

What movie is Universal shelling out this kind of cash for? Why "Couples Retreat" of course! Take a little "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," throw a dash of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau and what do ya know?!? So for the next few days intrepid MTV News producer Vanessa White Wolf and I will be here in a world an awfully long way from our Times Square home to soak up the sights and sounds and have a little fun chatting with the stars in some stupendously cool environs. Oh, and we'll make our co-workers in New York hate us as they never have before. (Editor's note: Already there, Josh. Already there.) Read More...

Shannon Elizabeth has been laying pretty low with her acting career lately, but her tweets sure do fly fast and furious. She first captured the public's attention in the 1999 comedy "American Pie," in which she unforgettably played exchange student Nadia. Of course my favorite role of hers was in Kevin Smith's "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back," in which she played sexy diamond thief with a conscience, Justice.

Recently, Elizabeth attended a screening of "Zombieland," which hits theaters next week. Vampires are still the new hotness, but zombies will always be an integral part of the pop culture zeitgeist. So whenever a new zombie movie hits, you can expect to see fans strut out in their self-made zombie costumes. I can't tell if the one Elizabeth is kissing in her Daily TwitPic image is a fan or a studio rep, but it doesn't really matter, does it? You're just here to see Shannon Elizabeth kissing a zombie. So hit the jump and get to it. Read More...

But wait! There's more! Studio head Bob Weinstein issued the pronouncement: "I'm heading back to my franchise films," as reported by Variety. The plan on paper calls for a veritable blitzkrieg of sequels, many of them in 3-D.

The most stunning news relates to the much-talked-about "Scream 4." Series star Neve Campbell had previously stated that she wouldn't be back for more. According to Weinstein, Campbell will return, joining already-confirmed castmates David Arquette and Courteney Cox. What's more, director Wes Craven is in talks with Dimension to helm. Read More...

"Fringe" kicked off its second season by essentially ignoring the most lingering question from the first year's finale -- namely, what happened to Special Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) when she traveled to an alternate universe? What does that reality represent for her and the rest of the show's participants? And what's the frakking deal with Massive Dynamic founder William Bell (Leonard Nimoy)?

Sadly, the season's second installment, titled "Night of Desirable Objects," doesn't particularly clarify the details of "Fringe's" central premise of multiple dimensions. Luckily, it's clear that the rules and promises set forth by last year's conclusion aren't being ignored -- they're just peppered a little more conservatively than we'd like. The revelations might be slowgoing, but they are undoubtedly on the way. Read More...

As an unabashed "Lost" fan, I can't help myself from acknowledging the undeniable similarities between the long-running J.J. Abrams-conceived television show and "FlashForward," the new ABC series that premiered earlier this evening. The David S. Goyer-helmed show clearly takes several cues from the J.J. Abrams-created "Lost," but none more obvious than its disaster-filled introductory sequence.

"FlashForward," like "Lost," focuses on a central premise: while not set on a remote island filled with dangerous, reality-bending mysteries, the world of "FlashForward" is no less curious. The entire human race seemingly blacks out at the exact same moment for the exact same length of time, with a vast majority experiencing a vision of their future six months from the incident. Simon Pegg happily tweeted about the publicity he hopes to see "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" get in the U.S. now that an on-set burglary has resulted in a trial. If his co-star Megan Fox wasn't enough to get the film some attention, he predicts that his testimony will be.

One film that's been getting loads of Twitter attention this week has been "Zombieland," which everyone seems to have been invited to see. Shannon Elizabeth can be counted among those invitees and gets today's Twitter Pic of Day vote with the cutest zombie kiss you'll see this week. Check it out below along with Rumer Willis' backstage shot of a Govt. Mule concert, what Taylor Lautner has in common with a roller coaster and what Richard Kelly wants to see in Diablo Cody's "Sweet Valley High" movie. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for September 24, 2009. Read More...

For the record, there's nothing wrong with "The Road" star Viggo Mortensen not knowing much about the plans that Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro have in place for their two-part big screen telling of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit." Aragorn, his "Lord of the Rings" character, doesn't actually factor into that story. That doesn't mean he can't be written in, but clearly no one's mentioned anything to Mortensen.

Speaking to the actor last week at the Toronto International Film Festival, MTV's Josh Horowitz got the actor talking about his potential involvement in... the post-"Hobbit" bridge film. Director del Toro exclusively told MTV over the summer that he won't be directing any bridge film. Still, even though there's no new information in the below video, I know plenty of women who would want to see it anyway. For Viggo. So... here you are!

In case you missed it, we started doing a little bit of TV coverage here on MTV Movies Blog last week. With the second season of J.J. Abrams' "Fringe" in full swing, MTV contributor Josh Wigler will be providing weekly recaps and opinions on the night's episode.

There's more to come though. Tonight marks the start of a brand new series on ABC, "FlashForward," which is loosely adapted from the Prix Aurora Award-winning sci-fi novel "Flashforward" by Robert J. Sawyer. "Star Trek: The Next Generation" writer Brannon Braga and "Batman Begins"/"The Dark Knight" writer David Goyer are the showrunners, and the duo took time out of their busy San Diego Comic-Con schedule in July to chat with MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall. -- The release of "Pandorum" this week, a movie which has drawn comparisons to everything from James Cameron's "Aliens" to Paul WS Andersons's "Event Horizon," has spurred a flurry of sci-fi/horror lists. Just today, our very own John Constantine put together his funny rundown of the scariest aliens in space. Cinematical's list is more laudatory, calling out the 10 greatest sci-fi/horror movies. (Sci-Fi Squad)

-- I love this list. New York Magazine's Vulture blog assembled a list/photo gallery of "The Future's Twelve Worst Haircuts." What is it pegged to, you ask? The ridiculous haircut that Bruce Willis sports in this week's comic book adaptation, "Surrogates." Do you need any more prodding than that? This feature is a win for one, simple reason: it mocks the despicable adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard's sci-fi novel, "Battlefield Earth." (Vulture) Read More...

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are horror's own odd couple, THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.

Jenni and Terri revisit Roman Polanski for this week's edition of Gore Girls, shrieking their way through the terror of his classic "Rosemary's Baby." In the movie, a married couple moves into a creepy, old New York City apartment. Strange things start to happen and... well... you probably know the rest. The wife is mysteriously impregnated and her baby turns out to be... let's just say he's trouble and leave it at that, shall we? Enjoy the Gore Girls' take on "Rosemary's Baby." Read More...
