So the word on the street is that Danny Trejo, frequent Robert Rodriguez collaborator and star of the upcoming "Grindhouse"-inspired "Machete," is heading to another Rodriguez-produced project — none other than mother-loving "Predators."

Punch Drunk Critics caught up with the actor over the weekend at HorrorFind Weekend, where Trejo claimed that "we" start shooting "Predators" in about a month — the "we" presumably meaning himself, Rodriguez, director Nimrod Antal and whoever else is still unmentioned for roles in the film. Filmmaker Roman Polanski, director of "Chinatown" and recent Gore Girls targets "Rosemary's Baby" and "Repulsion," was arrested by Swiss authorities in Europe on a three decade old sex abuse charge in the United States. Polanski, a French citizen, will remain in-country while the legal wranglings play out.

Following a publicized arrest in Los Angeles, Polanski ended up pleading guilty to one count of having sex with a minor in the subsequent trial. He fled the country shortly thereafter and has not returned since. Polanski has since had to be mindful of where his travels through Europe take him, what with the looming specter of extradition, but he maintains a home in Switzerland, according to a New York Times report. I still remember the shock of learning that Bob Saget -- Danny Tanner of "Full House" -- was in actuality a crass, profanity-spewing, foul-minded comedian. I knew this before seeing "Half-Baked," but Saget's unforgettable line -- "Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck d--k for coke." -- was like an awakening. Straight-laced OCD do-gooder Danny Tanner is actually a funny mofo who is willing to say anything for a laugh.

He's also a hopeless romantic apparently, a firm believer in the idea that everyone has someone out there who is a perfect match. Saget found her last week, as you'll learn in today's Daily TwitPic, and he couldn't be happier. I wish the new couple the best of luck. Hit the jump to see Saget's ideal mate. Read More...

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is one of those truly terrifying classic horror movies. There are levels of camp and comedy in lots of those '80s scare flicks, including anything from later in the "Elm Street" series, but that first one is pure terror. I'm still not convinced that a remake is necessary, but today's new trailer makes that a difficult stance to maintain.

If what you see in the video after the jump is familiar, there's a reason for that. A lot of those scenes are lifted from the original film, or at least heavily inspired by them. You also get your first somewhat clear look at Jackie Earle Haley's Freddy Krueger, and he's looking a bit different from the Robert Englund original. What do you think of the trailer? Hit the jump and then share your thoughts in the comments below. Read More...

1. "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" ($24.6 million)
2. "Surrogates" ($15 million)
3. "Fame" ($10 million)
4. "The Informant!" ($6.9 million)
5. "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" ($4.7 million)

Moviegoers on the American east coast woke up to both a literal downpour of rain as well as an irrefutable onslaught of oh-so-delicious "Meatballs." The Sony Pictures Animation film easily won the box office for its second weekend in a row with a $24.6 million intake, resulting in a total of $60 million since its debut last weekend. Read More...

I got a nasty surprise yesterday when I checked to see where I could catch "Paranormal Activity" nearby. The 13 college towns the movie opened in did not include New York City, though it did very well where people could see it.

Director Oren Peli has a message for all of us who want to see "Paranormal Activity," which you can see below. The gist of it is: demand wider openings from Paramount. Show your support and the ghosts will come to you.

Today the rains gave way to a stellar day in Bora Bora but there was work to be done with our “Couples Retreat” interviews beginning at last. Tomorrow we’ll be chatting with Vince Vaughn, Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, plus we’ll be going on some mini-adventures with the aforementioned talent. Let’s just say we’ve asked for lots of alcohol for the Vince/Malin shoot. We’re classy that way.

But back to today. Two couples were paired for us this afternoon for a couple of really fun chats. We got some great dirt on “Iron Man 2” from Jon Favreau and “Sex & the City 2” gossip from Charlotte herself but for now I want to share two key revelations I made in the course of these interviews. 1. "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" ($5.6 million)
2. "Surrogates" ($5 million)
3. "Fame" ($3.5 million)
4. "The Informant!" ($2 million)
5. "Pandorum" ($1.6 million)

If the Bruce Willis-starring comic book movie "Surrogates" had one obstacle to overcome this weekend, it was "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," the Sony Pictures Animation film that reigned supreme over last weekend's box office. Truly, it's a difficult decision for moviegoers -- experience a world filled with robotic analogues that can do and see anything you wish them to, or behold the spectacle of delectable food products raining gloriously upon your face. In the end, it looks like taste buds just barely won the battle. Read More...

If "Dollhouse" has one defining weakness, it comes in the form of Echo, the show's central character played by Eliza Dushku. The problem isn't necessarily in the acting -- though that could be argued -- but more in the fact that, as a character who literally changes personalities from week to week, it's nearly impossible to fully latch onto her plight.

When your show's central conceit focuses on a veritable brothel specializing in the sales of attractive, impressionable human beings, the lack of an accessible main character is a tremendous problem. I think that even the staunchest of Joss Whedon's fans would agree that they've stuck with "Dollhouse" not because it's a particularly riveting television experience, but because there's enough promise for it to eventually become worthwhile.

Thankfully, season two is looking to deliver on that promise. Read More...

Warmoth is out today. So @geminibros is here to steer the great ship Twitter-Wood. [insert requisite grumbling here]. [insert requisite praising of Warmoth's patience and skill in crafting this daily column here].

Today's Twitter-Wood report is light on variety, but with good cause. Bob Saget's new lady-love took the TwitPic prize, though Eliza Dushku followed close behind for shouting out to her "Dollhouse" fans. There's also a mini-update from "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli and a Brett Ratner burn from writer Brian Lynch. The highlight though is an exchange between pals Jason Reitman, Edgar Wright and Diablo Cody. Mr. Wright made some comments about the upcoming John Travolta/Robin Williams-starring family comedy "Old Dogs" and he caught some heat for it. Hilarity, of course, ensues. I'm @geminibros and this is your Twitter-Wood report for September 25, 2009. Read More...
