Accomplished screenwriter, director, actor and yes, author Kevin Smith already has one New York Times best-selling book behind him with 2007's "My Boring-Ass Life," and now he could have another with "Shootin' The Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best Of SModcast." On shelves now, "Shootin' The Sh*t" is a compilation of transcripts from Smith's wildly popular weekly podcast series alongside his friend and frequent collaborator, film producer Scott Mosier.
Filled with candid and frequently raunchy conversations about life, society, filmmaking and just about anything else that comes to mind for the pair (who are occasionally joined by Smith's wife and various members of his social professional circle), "Shootin' The Sh*t" collects more than 50 transcripts from the pair's SModcast sessions. However, as Smith told MTV News during a recent visit, there are some topics he's learned to avoid—especially when his wife's around.
"There was one time we were recording a SModcast. It was her and I," Smith said. "I talk about sex all the time anyway, but I'm going to talk about it with her because it's the one chick where I can be like, 'When we f--k..." So it can be a real personal kind of thing."
"I started getting into detail-oriented stuff and she f--king flagged... She waved me off!" he explained. "She was like, 'Don't f--king say that. I don't want to talk about that.' And I asked, 'Why?'"
"She was going, 'Look, you're a nice guy and I can vouch for you, but you put that kind of information out onto the ether and there are dudes out there who are like, 'Oh she 's a slut. She must want it that way,'" he continued. "[That was] something I'd never thought about. She felt personally unsafe with that particular information getting out. But she was right. She was absolutely right."
"I guess there's a boundary," Smith said. "Now I tend to stay away from excruciating detail about my sex life with my wife... when she's on the show. When she's not, well... then I tell Mosier in excruciating detail."
"Shootin' The Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best Of SModcast" is on shelves now from Titan Books.
