I'm a little disappointed by the content of this exclusive image from "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus." After that trippy trailer, I've expected (hoped?) that every subsequent glimpse of the movie would put forth more of director Terry Gilliam's weirdness.
Yes, yes... a movie's got to have character moments too. And there is something heartrendingly sweet about seeing Heath Ledger share this tender moment with Lily Cole in his final screen performance. Click the image below to check out the rest of MTV's 2009 Fall Preview gallery.

I couldn't resist. In yesterday's Twitter-Wood, as he sometimes does, Warmoth picked a Twitter Pic of the Day and a worthy runner-up. In this particular case, the competition is so tight that I'm including them both as your Daily TwitPic. Because really, Shaquille O'Neal's pink speedo and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian" sword -- which he keeps in his office -- are both worth pointing out.
My favorite part of the Shaq posting is the hashtag he uses, #watchoutphelps, a reference of course to record-breaking Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps. Maybe Shaq is hoping that the bright color of his trunks will distract the champion swimmer.
Then there's Schwarzenegger's sword. First, it's a sword. That automatically makes it worthy of attention. But it's not just any sword. The Governator swung that thing around as the shirtless, near-mute tough guy star of "Conan the Barbarian," an important piece of pulp film history. Respect to the man for keeping it on display in his office. Read more...

This post has been updated because of an error in judgment that I made when it was originally written. I sincerely apologize to the staff of The Sun for my hurtful comments. The people there are working journalists and talented writers. They deserve the same respect, the same benefit of the doubt, that I would show to any other fellow professional. All I can say is that I will learn from this mistake and choose my words more carefully in the future.
Here's a link to the original article in The Sun. While I still haven't had my query to Jackson's management responded to, it looks as though the original story was indeed correct. Read more...

-- "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" star Channing Tatum has joined the cast of Roman epic "Eagle of the Ninth," along with Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland and "Sherlock Holmes" star Mark Strong. Tatum will star as Marcus Aquila, sent by Rome to Britain to figure out what happened to the missing Ninth Legion. (The Hollywood Reporter)
-- Even though Vin Diesel and director Rob Cohen were going to re-team for "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," Cohen has since taken on other projects and the extreme sports super-spy simply can't fit into his schedule. Diesel will instead receive direction from "Invincible" helmer Ericson Core. (The Hollywood Reporter) Read more...

It could be a mirror he's looking into. That performance capture stuff freaks me out, man. It is Uncanny Valley, defined. Performance capture characters look plenty human, but they're "off" somehow. "Polar Express" freaked me out, "Beowulf" freaked me out and now "A Christmas Carol" is freaking me out. It's also a kickass story, and I've grudgingly accepted that I'll see it even if it feeds my every nightmare in the months that follow.
Judging by the chains and the comfortable surroundings, the scene pictured in the exclusive image below occurs early on, when Scrooge (Jim Carrey) is learning what he's in for from the ghost of his old friend, Jacob Marley (Gary Oldman). Ted Kennedy's passing this morning certainly didn't leave the Twitter-Wood feed untouched. I made my best attempt to summarize the spectrum of reactions today some retweets from Elizabeth Banks and Kevin Nealon.
It was also a massive photo-posting day for some reason. And when it came down to choosing between Shaquille O'Neal in a Speedo and Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan" sword, which in now housed at his California office, the hairs of choice were not easily split. Click on down there, and you'll find both of them, along with Warwick Davis' commentary on leaving his role as Filius Flitwick to replace Verne Troyer as Griphook the Goblin in "Harry Potter in the Deathly Hallows." Also, the lovely Emma Roberts talks bikinis. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for August 26, 2009. Read more...

My favorite part about finally having sat down and watched "Twilight" -- other than not hating it, and subsequently inspiring the ire of you Twilighter readers -- is that I have some context now, for both the characters and the situations they face. Not that it matter when I thumb through our now complete image gallery of "Eclipse" actors. That's two books/movies ahead of where I'm at, and there are a lot of new faces, characters I don't know a thing about.
I'm in the minority compared to most of you readers of course, and that's why I'm writing up this post. Click on the image below to check out our full "Eclipse" gallery, now 30 pictures strong. If you need a refresher on who's who, hit the jump for the text of Summit's original cast announcement press release, issued last week.

Although he's hardly as well known today as he was back in the '90s, Macaulay Culkin is nonetheless one of the most memorable child actors of our time -- but today is Culkin's 29th birthday, which makes it almost twenty years since "Home Alone" first hit theaters. Aside from feeling incredibly old, the time lapse got me thinking: whatever happened to Kevin McCallister?
No, I'm not talking about Culkin himself, who is still acting thanks to projects like "Saved!" and "Kings." Even if I don't know where he is specifically, I have an idea of where Culkin is as an actor -- but what I'd really like to know is, where would his "Home Alone" alter-ego be today? Whatever happened to Richie Rich? Where are these iconic characters on their 29th birthdays?
Sadly, we'll never know the answers... but that's not stopping me from wondering! If I had to guess, this is how I'd bet my five favorite Culkin characters turned out by age 29... Read more...

The teaser trailer for Chris Nolan's "Inception" is excellent for a lot of reasons. It looks cool as hell for starters. There's also the fact that this is exactly what a teaser should be. Lots of tantalizing imagery, no secrets revealed. Love it. More than a few directors could stand to take a page from this particular lesson.
After watching the trailer again... and again and again and again and again, the MTV production wizards whipped up a Freeze Frame edition of the "Inception" tease for your viewing pleasure. So view and be pleased already. You'll also find the vanilla teaser after the break.

Seriously, "Arrested Development" has become cinema's most prominent white whale. The fans -- myself included -- still cry about the unjust cancellation of the TV series, not to mention the fact that it wasn't picked up by anyone else despite pleas to that effect woven into the text of the final episodes. Creator Mitch Hurwitz has mentioned his movie plans, the cast members have been clear in expressing their willingness to participate, the fans continue to clamor for it... the continued absence of an "Arrested Development" movie is as baffling as it is frustrating.
Now there are a pair of new updates, from Jason Bateman and Tony Hale -- Michael and Buster Bluth on the show -- that the "Arrested" movie train continues to roll. The short answer is this: Hurwitz is still working on the script and there won't be any "next steps" taken until he's done. In other words, nothing's really changed. Want to know who said what and how? Hit the jump. Read more...
