While I'm certainly curious about Rob Zombie's further take on the Michael Myers mythology in "Halloween II," it's his original material that interests me most. One such project is "Tyrannosaurus Rex," a film that's been rarely discussed but has one of the single most ridiculously awesome (albeit unsafe for work) posters I have ever seen.

But Zombie was gracious enough to discuss the movie with MTV News, if only to clear the air on some rumors -- namely, that "Tyrannosaurus Rex" won't be based on a pre-established property, despite some speculation to the contrary.

Rob ZombieWeren't we just talking about horror franchises that Rob Zombie should take over after "Halloween II" hits theaters? Well, it looks like somebody out there was thinking the same exact thing, but contrary to MTV contributor John Constantine's hopes, it won't be "Tremors," "Blade" or "Critters" that Zombie puts his unique stamp on. No, the filmmaker is digging much deeper for his next directorial effort -- he's going to the 1950s.

According to Variety, Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce a remake of "The Blob," based on the classic 1958 horror film starring none other than the King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen. The "House of 1000 Corpses" director will update "The Blob" for a modern audience that might not find a big red pile of goo all that terrifying. Read More...

"The Final Destination" is out today. The title implies that this is it for the series, now four strong, though horror titles have a tendency to be misleading. "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday" and "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" are certainly the worst offenders, but there are others. Our very own John Constantine proved today that there are still plenty of ideas left to mine for the franchise.

Here we have a pair of image galleries for your viewing enjoyment. First up is a set of film stills, in which you'll see an assortment of young, beautiful people looking scared for their lives. With good cause too. After the jump, you'll see those same beautiful people smiling radiantly on the red carpet of the "Final Destination" premiere. A good buddy of mine asked me if I had plans for this evening. I did not.

“Dude, you have to come see ‘The Final Destination’ with me,” he said.

“Nah. I saw the second one in the theater. People died. I think I got the gist of it.”

He fired back: “You’re telling me you don’t want to see a giant stock car crush someone in 3D?”

The man made an excellent point. I do want to see that. But that’s got to be as far as they can go, right?

After four movies, a series of novels and a comic book, you’ve got to think that this quiet little horror franchise has run its course. After all, creating new and elaborate Rube Goldberg machines of grisly death is hard work. What else could they possibly do to shock audiences who’ve been watching far-fetched tragedies befall teenagers for close to a decade now?

Here are a few thoughts on possible directions: Read More...

Gabourey SibideI caught director Lee Daniels' "Precious" at Sundance this year, though it sported a different name back then. Watching it is a draining experience, a constant assault on the senses with its raw displays of human misery and abuse. It's Oscar-bait, plain and simple, and damn fine Oscar bait. "Precious" deserves every ounce of praise that it will assuredly get when it hits theaters on November 6.

The story follows Precious Jones -- an impressive performance from newcomer Gabourey Sibide, who was recently interviewed by MTV's Eric Ditzian -- a teenage girl from Harlem with a now-absent sexually abusive father and a cruel mother (Mo'Nique, who very nearly eclipses Sibide's portrayal). I don't recommend "Precious" because it's a joy to behold. It isn't. But it is a powerful piece of film, one that will surely make multiple appearances at the next Academy Awards ceremony. Will FerrellAren’t direct sequels so overrated? Who wants to see what happens immediately after a hit movie anyway? Here’s a better idea: revisit a movie’s characters way, way down the line, when they’ve become old people. It’s kind of been done before. Look at “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”! But what if it didn’t have to take decades to deliver such a sequel?

This might actually be the concept behind the somewhat planned follow-up to “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” according to producer Judd Apatow. In an interview with Empire, he said that a sequel is now being discussed more seriously than it had been a year ago. We already knew that Will Ferrell met with creative minds from the first film earlier this year, but now it sounds like the next steps are being taken. Read More...

It's a rough year for movie titles containing numbers, particularly the number 9. There's "District 9" of course, and Shane Acker's upcoming animated stitchpunk fantasy "9." Then there's also "Nine," which is -- prepare yourself -- an adaptation of a book based on a musical based on an Italian play inspired by Federico Fellini's classic film, "8 1/2." Whew.

Daniel Day-Lewis stars as Guido Contini, an aging director who struggles to his work life with a series of romantic encounters, all while trying to kickstart his flagging creativity. Director Rob Marshall, who will next take on "Pirates of the Caribbean 4," previously did the award-winning screen adaptation of "Chicago," so he's got plenty of experience with musicals. In the exclusive image after the jump, check out Contini sampling the fruits of his midlife crisis. Read More...

I snapped yesterday, readers. Warmoth clearly has an unnatural fixation on former "Full House"/"ER" star John Stamos. Look, I like Jesse and the Rippers as much as the next child of the '80s, but this madness has to stop. And so, in the interest of bringing your Daily TwitPics some variety, I put a temporary moratorium on Stamos-centric TwitPics. Warmoth tells me that Ice-T and Rose McGowan's puppy will benefit. Have mercy indeed...

So. Today's TwitPic. To be honest, I think I missed something here. Stamos and his fellow former "House" star Bob Saget had some sort of exchange involving dates and tattoos. I can't tell if these inked wrists belong to Stamos, or if they're some adoring fan showing an appreciation for Uncle Jesse. In the hopes that one of you is smarter than me -- not a challenge, I assure you -- I've included the related tweets after the jump, for context. Read More...

As you may recall from yesterday's Twitter-Wood, John Stamos called upon one of his Twitter fans to post a photo of his alleged Uncle Jesse-based tattoo. Well today that tweeter responded in kind, and the wrist tattoos are linked to at the top of the report for all to see now.

In other tweets, Robert Rodriguez gleefully celebrated his confirmed actors for "Machete," calling out Jessica Alba and Robert De Niro. As it turns out, the director has his own Twitter fan in Dane Cook, who's read the script. Kristen Bell, meanwhile, claims to have been reading "hacked" tweets coming out of her account. In what may be a related event, Dax Shepard called out a poser using the fake name @IMkristenBeII (note how two upper case i's can resemble two lowercase L's), who tried to break up with him. You can check out all that drama and more below. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for August 27, 2009. Read More...

James Frey, the golden boy author of Oprah's book club who later became a star on The Smoking Gun for his pseudo-memoir, "A Million Little Pieces," will get his new young adult sci-fi novel, "I Am Number Four," adapted for film at the hands of "Smallville" creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. That's the same movie that Michael Bay scooped up to produce and possibly direct as he wrapped work on "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

Gough and Millar will script the movie, based on Frey's as-yet unpublished book from HarperCollins, according to Variety. Bay is still committed to produce, but director duties remain unassigned. Read More...
