Jimi HendrixIn "The Sandlot," Babe Ruth wisely informed Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez that "heroes get remembered, but legends never die." Luckily for Jimi Hendrix, he may well get to enjoy both of those luxuries.

Variety reports that a Hendrix biopic is currently in the works through Thomas Tull's Legendary Pictures. The feature film would focus on the life and career of Hendrix, the rock & roll legend whose mastery over the guitar has melted the faces of music lovers since the 1960s. The script is being written by Max Borenstein, who previously wrote the 9/11-inspired "What Is Life Worth?," which was never produced. Read More...

News like this makes me want to cry. Why? How? Does The Beatles' classic psychedelic animated feature "Yellow Submarine" really need a remake? I love and fear the Blue Meanies as much as the next fan, but I'm perfectly satisfied with keeping them firmly rooted in the 1960s, where they were born.

It gets worse too. The deal currently being brokered will put Robert Zemeckis, in partnership with Disney, on the project. Now I've got no problem with Zemeckis in theory. "Back to the Future," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?," "Romancing the Stone," "Forrest Gump"... the guy definitely had a hand in shaping my love of film. He's all about the performance capture these days however, and I just don't know if my frail mind can take the sight of Blue Meanies as photorealistic CG characters. Read More...

I don't know about y'all, but I've been hearing about "Avatar" for such a long time that it's started to feel like something unreal. Director James Cameron has some ambitious plans for the flick, and he's talked about them at great length while sharing very little in the way of object examples. For a long time, I wasn't even sure if it was going to be a live action movie, a work of CGI animation or a mixture of the two, a la "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" or "Speed Racer."

Hell, a majority of the images we've seen from "Avatar" thus far come from the tie-in video game. Until today. Following on the heels of last week's "ThunderCat reveal," come a small collection of additional images. They're mostly character and behind-the-scenes moments, though one does serve up some computer-generated pretty. Just click the image below to check out our shiny, new "Avatar" stills gallery.

You can also head over to a French MSN site for an early look at the official trailer, which premieres tomorrow. It's in French, but that really doesn't matter in this case. Just sit back, turn the sound down and enjoy the pretty. And the kissing ThunderCats.

I'm not terribly surprised to be informing you that Samuel L. Jackson's "Pulp Fiction" character Jules Winnfield currently has the lead in the "favorite Quentin Tarantino character" poll, with almost 50% of your votes. Come on, Max Cherry fans! I know you're out there! Show some love for the "Jackie Brown" bail bondsman!

In the below video, "Inglourious Basterds" star Brad Pitt talks about the director's characters, how they have fully developed back stories. That's part of the reason they all tend to be so unforgettable; even if you never learn the full background, it's always there to inform the actor's performance, creating a more nuanced, more believable portrayal.

Hit the jump for the poll, and remember: if you don't agree with the picks, share your thoughts in the comments section or upload your video response to Your MTV (make sure to tag it "favorite Tarantino character"). Read More...

Today's Daily TwitPic comes with a guarantee: you will laugh. For many of us, John Stamos will always be Uncle Jesse, the rock and roll-playing "cool" uncle from the shmaltzy late-'80s/early-'90s TV series "Full House." One of the character's defining features was his obsession with his hair. "Watch the hair," Jesse would cry in fear whenever anyone got too close. That was all Stamos too; he didn't wear a wig or anything, his hair was just that awesome.

You know, Stamos has every reason to be obsessive about his magnificent head of hair. It wasn't always the carefully sculpted work of art that "Full House" fans came to envy. In fact, Stamos's baby hair was downright laughable. The actor, who deserves plenty of respect for having a sense of humor about himself, posted a baby pic yesterday that must be seen to be believed. Heed his original caption too -- "me and mother. please, it's my birthday- i'm not asking i'm telling-MAKE JOKES" -- and crack jokes at the @johnstamos Twitter feed. Read More...

John StamosTom Felton sounds like he'll be lightening up his mood a bit for his next non-"Harry Potter" project. The normally moody-on-screen actor who plays Draco Malfoy will be jumping into Jonah Hill's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" sequel "Get Him to the Greek" alongside Hill and Russell Brand, according to his Twitter updates.

Elsewhere in our feed, the Twitter-Wood report joins John Stamos' former "Full House" cast members Bob Saget and Dave Coulier in wishing the well-groomed actor a happy birthday. The "ER" star's own bday post snagged today's Twitter Pic of the Day, which I've inserted below via Saget's re-tweet and well-wishing. If you ever wanted to see how great Stamos' hair looked early on in life, now is your chance. Check it out, along with Richard Kelly's computer problems, an explosion from F. Gary Gray's new film and more. It's all in the Twitter-Wood Report for August 19, 2009. Read More...

Kristen Stewart-- "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" director Chris Nolan was all set to direct an adaptation of the weird UK TV series, "The Prisoner." That is no longer the case, according to producer Barry Mendel. The project is still in the works, and there's even a script from David and Janet Peoples -- the "Twelve Monkeys" writers -- but the man who revived Batman for the modern era is no longer a part of it. (CineFOOLS)

-- Disney has announced the lineup for their D23 Expo, where fans will be able to lay their hungry eyes on all manner of upcoming properties from the Mouse House, including Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" and Jerry Bruckheimer's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." I'm most interested in the "Muppets update" presentation, whatever that may be. (/Film) Read More...

James MarstersAre you a fan of both “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Battlestar Galactica”? How about "MADtv"? If so, then your TV-watching dreams have come true with a casting announcement that links all three series'. Let's start with the whopper: James Marsters, who played fan-favorite Spike on “Buffy” and its spin-off “Angel,” has joined the cast of “Caprica,” an upcoming Syfy show that’s a prequel to the recently finished “Battlestar.”

Marsters will play a villain named Barnabus Greeley, described as a dangerous and unpredictable terrorist torn by his conflicting moral and carnal desires. The character appears to exist outside of the show’s primary focus, which is on two rival families: the Graystones and the Adamas (headed by Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales, respectively). Considering the actor’s appeal and sizable fanbase, it’s sure to be a major role. Read More...

Guy RitchieUPDATE: Apologies that this wasn't made clearer. Ritchie's comments on Moriarty came before the Brad Pitt rumor started up.

Two days ago word slipped out that Brad Pitt was off to London, where he'd be shooting a few pickup scenes as Moriarty for Guy Ritchie's December blockbuster "Sherlock Holmes," starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Warner Bros. acted quickly, issuing a statement that Pitt would not be "joining the cast of 'Sherlock Holmes.'" If wishes were fishes, right?

As it turns out, Moriarty will still be making some kind of appearance in "Holmes." How do we know? Because Ritchie himself told MTV's Josh Horowitz! I would even go as far as saying -- and this is pure speculation -- the Pitt may indeed be showing up as Holmes' nemesis in an uncredited role, since that wouldn't technically mean he's "joining the cast." Think on that as you read what Ritchie had to say. Read More...
