It's fair to say that I've gotten a nice share of free stuff during my tenure here at MTV News. So much so that I've become jaded (a curse, I know). You can only get so many alarm clocks, vodka bottles and t-shirts before it all melds together. But every once in awhile, something comes across my desk that stops me in my tracks. That happened today when a hefty package arrived.
Opening its lid, I saw the logo of a show I rate in my top 3 of all time... yes, it was a massive "Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series" Blu-ray box set. This was no ordinary collection either. The 12-inch Cylon Centurion carefully nestled inside a see-through lid was the first clue.
I wasn't aware the series was getting a release like this, so I have to hand it to the folks at Universal Home Entertainment... they've made one hell of a product.
The set - which hits stores July 28 at a price point of $349.98 for Blu-ray and $279.98 for DVD (tho you can probably find cheaper online) - stands a foot tall with holders on each side for individual season boxes (4 in total, natch).
But the coolest part is yet to come...when you pull up on the entire box, it rises to display the faces of castmembers on all sides.
In short, this is one of the finest box sets I've ever seen, ranking right up there with the Neo mini-bust "Matrix" collection (my personal benchmark). It's already found a lovely spot in my cramped New York City apartment. Good stuff.
