Transformers: Revenge of the Fallenby John Constantine

I hear the same complaint every summer: why are there so many sequels!? Don’t these movie-maker people have any original ideas? How about some new movies already? Look, everyone. Sequels are awesome. We’ve known this about popular fiction since popular fiction was invented. Long before Optimus Prime rolled out in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” creators and audiences have been itching to return to their favorite characters and stories.

Just look at Cervantes. The guy created the modern novel. His "Don Quixote" was the 17th century equivalent to the summer blockbuster. Know what the guy did ten years after writing it? He wrote part two! Continuing adventures are coded into the very DNA of modern entertainment. The only problem is that they rarely live up to their predecessors. Here are the five movie sequels that not only met expectations, but exceeded them. Read More...

John KerryLots of former presidential candidates, Barack Obama, Al Gore and George W. Bush included, get the chance to see their names on credits crawls in theaters. Now, the Federal Election Commission may be all that stands between Sen. John Kerry and the film "Keeping the Faith." Though no one has green-lit a biopic about the Massachussetts senator, he appears to have an interest in executive producing the new movie.

A documentary about injured Iraq war veterans, "Keeping the Faith" will be helmed by Kerry's longtime friend George Butler, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Butler has also directed documentaries about Kerry and current California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the well-received "Pumping Iron." Read More...

Saw IVAnother real, actual movie prop for you today, complete with a certificate of authenticity. I suspect this will fall outside what many of you might be willing to spend, but it's cool enough that I thought it deserved an eBay Prop-Watch shout.

In case you haven't heard, the "Saw" horror franchise is pretty popular. I think it has something to do with the excessive gore, and the creative ways it is realized on the silver screen. Jigsaw, the serial killer antagonist at the heart of the series, has a thing for teaching his victims painful lessons. Excruciatingly painful ones, of the sort which would make a quick death seem like a welcome relief. In fact, that's what today's prop is all about. Read More...

Vanessa HudgensLast week, MTV's Matt Harper paid a visit to the set of "Beastly," opening July 2010, where he got a chance to sit down and chat with "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens. She happily discussed a range of topics, including her recent decision to pull back from the music a bit so she can focus on her acting. I can't say I blame her, given the upcoming gig she's got with "300" director Zack Snyder: "Sucker Punch."

"I'm extremely excited," Hudgens said. "When I read about the project I was like, ‘that’d be great, but its not going to happen’…and now it actually is!" The big draw for Hudgens is really the director himself. "It's an honor, I'm such a big fan of his work." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: When Robert Pattinson was grazed by a moving taxicab recently, the news rocked legions of "Twilight" fans who feared for their favorite actor's life. His series co-star Michael Welch, however, was surprised to hear the news when he sat down with MTV News on Tuesday.

"No," marveled the actor, who plays Mike Newton in the films. "You are how I stay in touch with this stuff."

Once we briefed Mike on the recent near-tragedy, the affable actor expressed concern for RPattz's health — and a hope that the star's skyrocketing fame crests soon.

Ryan ReynoldsRyan Reynolds has built a sturdy, marketable reputation on being a hunky wisecracker. He is so determined to shake up that image that he's going underground... six feet under, to be precise. Reynolds is taking the lead in "Buried," an independent thriller directed by Rodrigo Cortes ("The Contestant"), according to a report in Variety.

The actor will play a civilian contractor who is living and working in Iraq. After being kidnapped by forces unknown, he awakens in a coffin buried in the desert, armed with only a cell phone, a candle and a knife. It's not the first "buried alive" story and it won't be the last, but I bet you still feel claustrophobic just reading that! Read More...

Scout Taylor-Compton"The Runaways" have found their Lita Ford, and the band is now officially complete. According to Variety, Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie's "Halloween") has joined Floria Sigismondi's biopic as the Runaways' lead guitarist and future solo rock goddess. Earlier reports had pegged actress Alessandra Torresani for the part, and Taylor-Compton for bassist Jackie Fox, but they've either switched roles or deals have fallen through.

Ford joined the Runaways in 1976 along with Cherie Currie, a year after the band was formed by Joan Jett, bassist Micki Steele and drummer Sandy West. Ford remained with the band until their break-up in 1979, and enjoyed a very successful career as a solo artist. Read More...

Quidditch: bringer of glory, destroyer of friendships. The dangerous wizarding sport created by J.K. Rowling for the "Harry Potter" universe pits two teams armed with broomsticks against one another as they try to wrangle a ball through a trio of hoops for points. A very cool thing to see in a movie thanks to the magic of digital effects, but difficult to pull off as a real-world sport. Or is it...?

The Muggles in the video below have comes to terms with their magical disabilities. I'm not going to spoil the fun, but watch this little tease to see how the lack of flying broomsticks, Bludgers and a Quaffle are accounted for. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" hits theaters on July 15.
