Michael JacksonMichael Jackson was the epitome of cool to those of us who grew up in the 1980s. He was probably the first celebrity I recognized and followed as a young kid.

One of my fondest memories of Jackson was his Disneyland 3-D movie, "Captain EO." When I first visited Disneyland it was one of the newest and most popular attractions. Being at Disneyland, the last thing you really want to do is sit down for anything... but this was a Michael Jackson movie! In 3-D! Read More...

There were also plenty of Shaq fans busy reacting to the NBA star's trade to Cleveland today, including Jeremy Piven and Danny Masterson.

Meanwhile, an exhausted Jon Favreau proved that a full day filming "Iron Man 2" wasn't enough to dampen his sense of humor, as he tweeted a completely legit shot from the movie's set. Click onward for all of this and yet another celeb reaction to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" in the Twitter-Wood report for June, 25, 2009. Read More...

Contrary to some Internet reporters, actor Jeff Goldblum is alive and well. Earlier today, while news of Michael Jackson was still unfolding, various websites reported a second death in the entertainment industry: Jeff Goldblum, known for such roles as "The Fly" and "Independence Day."

In a statement to MTV News, the celebrity's reps called the news "crazy" and definitively labeled it as "not true." So in a day befallen with tragedy, at least one silver lining exists.

HitmanI have fond memories of the original video game-to-film adaptation of "Hitman" for one reason and one reason only. That's where I met my good friend John Constantine, who submits some great lists and opinion pieces here on MTV Movies Blog each week. We bonded over a misguided film critic's assertion that the movie isn't for kids even though it is based on a game. I quickly pointed out that an M-rated game is not for kids either.

I digress. The point of the above anecdote is that "Hitman" wasn't a particularly great movie. Star Timothy Olyphant is a talented actor, and he did bear a striking resemblance to the game's Agent 47 -- admittedly not a difficult thing one the bald cap is in place -- but the fact remains that the adaptation fell considerably short of what it could have been. Maybe that's par for the course when it comes to game adaptations, but it also makes Fox's latest move all the more puzzling. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Conventional wisdom says that if you want to watch a great artistic achievement, you look to accomplished filmmakers. If you just want to have a good time and eat some popcorn, you choose something loud, gory and unapologetically exploitative. But somewhere in the middle are the "Piranha" films — and when we recently visited the set of the franchise reboot, we found a unique mix of blood, babes and bona-fide actors.

"The movie is going to be insane, because as much blood as it has, it has the equal amount of boobies," grinned Paul Scheer, the "Human Giant" funnyman who stars in "Piranha 3-D" alongside a huge cast that includes Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss (in a nod to his "Jaws" role), Christopher Lloyd, Eli Roth and Ving Rhames. "It's boobies and blood. And we supply the boobies!"

OscarsYesterday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Best Picture category centerpiece at the yearly Oscar awards show will be expanded to include 10 nominees. We MTV Movies Team staffers were not amused.

In the wake of the announcement, many accusations surfaced that this move is nothing more than a ratings ploy. For many, the allegations spring from the fact that "The Dark Knight" -- a universally regarded hit and currently the fourth-highest grossing film of all time -- was snubbed for a Best Pic nomination. That got me thinking about all of the other incredible films which have fallen victim to Oscar politics over the years... Read More...

Zach GalifianakisFROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: OK, well maybe IMDb’s STARmeter isn’t saying that Zach Galifianakis is technically hotter than Taylor Lautner, but it is saying that, this week, “The Hangover” star is beating out Taylor, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as Hollywood’s sixth most popular star.

The STARmeter is determined by how many views certain stars receive each week, and then ranks them accordingly. Unsurprisingly, Taylor’s fellow “Twilight” stud Robert Pattinson is #1 on the chart (he has been in the top 10 for the past 36 weeks and #1 for 22 of them — wow!), followed by Zach’s “Hangover” co-star Bradley Cooper at #2 and “The Proposal” hottie Ryan Reynolds at #5.

As you all learned earlier today, "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens is very excited about her role in the upcoming Zack Snyder project, "Sucker Punch." Speaking with MTV's Matt Harper on the set of "Beastly," the singer gushed her affection for the "300" director's work, and her joy at being able to break away from her youth-oriented roots.

"Sucker Punch" tells the story of a wrongfully institutionalized young woman (Amanda Seyfried, at last report) who retreats into a fantasy world of her own creation as a coping mechanism. Hudgens will play Blondie, one of Seyfried's fellow inmates. Well here... why don't you see for yourself:

Don't go! There's more! Hudgens also had a bit to say on her audition for the role and how she landed the part-- but almost didn't. It's good stuff, so keep on reading after the jump. Read More...
