Joan Jett and Kristen StewartFROM MTV.COM: Not only has Kristen Stewart embraced the role of Joan Jett by dying her hair black and cutting it into a mullet for her role in the upcoming film "The Runaways," now she's been spotted at a Los Angeles studio with Runaways founding member Joan Jett.

The duo — along with Stewart's "New Moon"/ "Runaways" castmate Dakota Fanning — hit Sunset Sound studios on Monday, where they were recording for the biopic, about the seminal all-teen-female 1970s rock band of the same name. While the Runaways, founded by Jett in 1975, never achieved large-scale commercial success, they were a galvanizing force on the Los Angeles punk scene, not to mention the first widely recognized all-female teen rock group and the spawning ground for the subsequent solo careers of Jett and guitarist Lita Ford.

Sean Penn"The Three Stooges" are down to Two. Sean Penn has said "soitenly not" to the Farrelly Bros.' "Stooges" revival, and walked away from the project, leaving Moe and Curly without their Larry. Quick, somebody call Shemp!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penn is dropping out of "Stooges," as well as the thriller "Cartel." The actor's sudden change in plans is based on the need to spend more time with his family. Sources say that he may keep away from movie-making for as long as a year, though the two-time Oscar winner gave no set timetable. Penn and his wife Robin Wright Penn have been in and out of the tabloids for their marital woes. Who can really blame them for taking a little personal time?

Maybe the Farrelly Bros., who are facing a collapse of their "Stooges" remake. While Universal plans to move forward with "Cartel" and recast the leading role, "Stooges" has really been left in the lurch. The writer/director siblings have spent years trying to get their slap-happy film off the ground. They scored a big victory in landing Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro for the cast. "Stooges" was scheduled to begin shooting in August and MGM had set a release date of 2010.

Now the Farrellys need to decide whether they'll recast the part or wait for Penn, a delay that could cost them the other two Stooges. There's even a possibility that the entire film could be scrapped. That's certainly what MTV's Larry Carroll is hoping for. THR notes that "half of Hollywood would poke their eyes out for the part," so maybe the casting fun, drama and violence is just beginning...

MTV readers, are you sorry to see Sean Penn take a break from the big screen? What do you think should happen to "The Three Stooges" remake? If it goes forward, who would you like to see replace Penn as Larry?

'The Bride of Frankenstein'Universal's movie monsters are the stuff of cinematic legend. While Frankenstein & Company might not scare us like they used to, those old black and white horror flicks are still a lot of fun to watch on a late October night. Even so, it's not surprising that the studio is looking to update and remake their library.

Universal has "The Wolf Man" coming this fall with Benicio Del Toro in the lead. They've also been talking about a remake of "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" for years. Now Uni is looking to breathe -- or electrify, as the case may be -- new life into "The Bride of Frankenstein." Read more...

Tyrese GibsonTyrese Gibson should be given some kind of medal from the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" PR team, because his volume of TwitPic output since the film's numerous international premieres began has been epic. Today was no exception, as he posted some candid shots of his fellow cast members, including his lovely co-star Megan Fox.

Miley Cyrus was busy posting pics of her own as she began shooting for her new film "The Last Song." Today in Twitter-Wood we also learned that Mandy Moore possibly dabbles in Dungeons & Dragons and that Brea Grant plans to appear in an upcoming FunnyOrDie.com short. I'm @brianwarmoth, and here is your Twitter-Wood report for June 16, 2009. Read more...

Megan FoxFROM MTV.COM: Perhaps being back on the singles scene has made "Transformers" star Megan Fox reconsider her feelings about "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson. There was a time when Fox said she wouldn't consider dating Pattinson, or Zac Efron for that matter, because in her opinion they are too young and too pretty.

"I mean, he's outrageously attractive, he's like a very pretty man," she told MTV UK when asked about the rumors that she and Pattinson were at one time romantically involved. "I've never been in a room with him, though, so those rumors aren't true. ... Although, you know every other girl on the planet wishes that it was, but I didn't have the opportunity so."

Here is an excerpt from the below video, which I think should really be left to speak for itself:

Michael Cera: "Everyone else would be terrified of us."
Jack Black: "They'd be terrified of us... but... they would also just kill us. Right away."

"Year One" stars Jack Black and Michael Cera. Two funny guys. Dead at the hands of neanderthals, sure. But that's only because they wouldn't understand the jokes. Head over to MTV.com to catch the rest of MTV Rough Cut: Jack Black and Michael Cera.

Stephen GaghanFilmmaker Tony Scott was all over the place in his recent interview with ComingSoon. Yesterday, we reported that he's officially called a "time out" on talk of the rumored "Alien" remake. He also revealed his plans for the coming "re-tooling" of "The Warriors," along with a bunch of other interesting tidbits.

The bit that really caught my eye was the revelation that Stephen Gaghan, the Oscar-winning writer of "Traffic," is developing a script for an adaptation of Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson's seminal work, "Hell's Angels." It's a wild bit of non-fiction writing culled from a very specific moment in history. Read more...

Michael SheenBritish actor Michael Sheen, who will be seen by millions this fall in “New Moon,” is reportedly in talks to join the James Bond franchise for yet another iconic role. According to an anonymous source, Sheen is up for the villainous part of Blofeld in the 23rd installment of the 007 series, which is currently being co-scripted by two-time Oscar-nominated writer Peter Morgan.

Morgan and Sheen have collaborated many times before, most memorably for “Frost/Nixon” and “The Queen,” in which he portrayed former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. It’s possible that this link between writer and actor has led to speculative rumors of Sheen’s interest and involvement in the Bond film, but we’re hoping that it’s true. Apparently Sheen has been a fan of the 007 series since his youth, so he is likely crossing his fingers, as well. Read more...
