Reese Witherspoon is going to play a drug dealer... but not the kind that runs drugs across borders or deals in shady corners. She'll instead be the kind who deals out prescription meds at the pharmacy counter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon is taking the lead in the cleverly titled "Pharm Girl," and will be producing it under her Type A banner.
The story centers on a woman who gets a job at a top pharmaceutical company, and rises quickly through the ranks, probably after doing her time hawking drugs, pens and pads to doctors and hospitals all across our great nation. As she becomes more successful within the company, she begins to see it's seedy underbelly. Read more...

How awesome is it that we're getting a remake of "Red Dawn"? Seriously. Put aside your kneejerk -- and very natural -- prejudice against the rising number of remakes and just think about that for a second. The original served up an alternate-present 1980s in which Cold War-era Soviet forces invade America. A group of Midwestern teenagers take up arms against the aggressors, operating under the name of their high school football team, Wolverines. Included in this group are stars Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell. Damn. Straight.
How is an idea like that not screaming for a remake? It's already been confirmed that "Thor" and "Star Trek" star Chris Hemsworth will be stepping into Swayze's Jed Eckert role. Now The Hollywood Reporter reveals that "The Wackness" star Josh Peck and "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki have also joined the cast. Read more...

Protests, marches, and link-passing have taken over Twitter following last week's contested election results in Iran, and the Twitter-Wood feed has been no exception. Alyssa Milano has been particularly persistent with her #iranelection-tagged tweets, and directors Errol Morris, James Gunn, and Jon Favreau all logged on to comment on the events in Tehran.
Meanwhile, a few tweets squeaked through with details from the "Iron Man 2" and "Casino Jack" sets, as well as from Wil Wheaton's guest appearance on the TNT series "Leverage." Also, Jonah Hill joins Kat Dennings and Nick Jasenovec in doubting the legitimacy of the controversial Michael Cera Twitter account that I've mentioned before. Click onward for all of these, birthday wishes to actor Michael Showalter, a much more in 140 characters or less in today's Twitter-Wood report! Read more...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: I’m certain there are, oh, an army’s worth of “Twilight” fans out there who’d do almost anything to become Cullen vampire Jackson Rathbone’s girlfriend. Alas, that’s probably not going to happen any time soon. But Jasper Cullen devotees most certainly will have a shot to see Jackson in a film called “Girlfriend” in the future, as the Texas-born actor revealed to MTV News during a recent conversation.
“I’m actually producing my first film this year called ‘Girlfriend,’” he says. “New director Justin Lerner kind of made a splash at a couple festivals last year with a short film he did.”

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: We gave you a sneak-peek at the stars of the upcoming horror flick “Sorority Row” earlier today with an exclusive video from MTV’s visit to the set, and now we’re bringing you two steamy images from the movie itself. Above, “Hills” starlet Audrina Patridge, who’s making her theatrical debut, and her boy toy in the movie, Matt O’Leary, are in the middle of a make-out session. Only this spit-swapping scene takes a turn for the worse when Audrina and her sisters decide to go in on a vicious prank.

This weekend we get to find out exactly what happened in "Year One." Or at least what Hollywood thinks happened. As you know, they tend to fudge the historical facts for a better story and... wait. This a comedy? Not a serious Biblical epic? My bad.
In honor of "Year One," I've decided to dig up five movies that tell just what happened in the years after. If IMDB is to be trusted, "year movies" will be a trend in the next few years. There's Roland Emmerich's latest vision of the apocalypse, "2012," along with "1066" (the Norman Invasion of England), "1777" (A pretty big year for the American colonies) and "1906" (The San Fransisco Earthquake). Date titles aren't just the new hotness however. Just look at these, all of which came out long before 6/17/09... Read more...

Shia LaBeouf likes music. One song in particular really seems to move him: Stan Bush's "The Touch." Some of you might know it from "Transformers: The Movie" (1986). Others may recognize it as a recent downloadable release for the "Guitar Hero" video game. Everyone remembers Mark Wahlberg's terrible rendition of it in "Boogie Nights." And if you don't, you should correct that.
Now we have a new version to... errr... well, not necessarily enjoy so much as chuckle at. Wincing is an acceptable response as well. Because hearing the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" star sing it for MTV is equal parts hilarious and painful. Even he knows it. Sorry, Shia... you still kick ass. Just don't sing in public anymore. Ever.

Although Marc Forster has directed many movies we’ve all seen, from “Finding Neverland” to the licensed to kill blockbuster “Quantum of Solace,” he’s resisted becoming an auteur -- a filmmaker who doesn't let us forget that he’s behind the camera -- a la Stanley Kubrick, Kevin Smith and others. In his latest offering, Forster is breaking several of his own rules, including taking command of the lens from both sides.
“[While filming ‘Solace’] I realized that the only time I had for me, which was quiet and calm, was on an airplane,” Forster explained of his mind-blowingly trippy new short. It's something that has to be seen to be believed, and you can check it out over at the website for Swiss International Air Lines. “It was the only moment where I could reflect and be myself… there’s a nice symbolism in the meaning of journey.” Read more...

We have a really great Movies Editor here at MTV. Armed with the knowledge that "Year One" stars Jack Black and Michael Cera have summer birthdays, Josh Horowitz showed up for his junket interview packing heat. And by heat, I mean a box of cupcakes and the most kickass birthday hat you've ever seen.
Seriously. It's pink, it's got fake candles and it's shaped like a cross between a crown and a cake. To Cera's credit, he realized that only one person present could pull off such a look. Or maybe he just wisely concluded what wearing such a thing could do to his career. Watch the video below, then check out more of Josh's hilarious interview with Black and Cera at MTV.com.

As we've already reported, Sean Penn and Hollywood are breaking up. Or at least going through a trial separation. One of the consequences of this newly announced hiatus is Penn's departure from the Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges," a film that's now in jeopardy thanks to the actor's sudden exit.
With the role of Larry now open, it'll be up to a last-minute replacement to save the film. So who in the movie business could possibly jump in at the eleventh hour to knock noses and poke eyeballs with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro? It remains to be seen -- but I've certainly got my picks. Read more...
