FROM MTV.COM: Some played with the action figures when they were children; others remember the cartoon show. Some were there to see Megan Fox on the big-screen; others were there for Shia LaBeouf. The one thing everyone on the red carpet for Monday's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" premiere seemed to share, however, was a love of all things big, noisy and — in the immortal words of Michael Bay — awesome.

"We made history in this movie with a scene that involved the biggest explosion scene with actors in it," marveled series star Tyrese, who joked that the hairs on the back of his neck still haven't grown back. "It was this huge explosion."

Pete TravisModernizing Shakespeare is so hot for ’09. A few weeks ago we learned that “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke is tackling an update of the Bard’s “Hamlet” starring Emile Hirsch. Now The Hollywood Reporter brings news of a “modern-day makeover” of “Macbeth” titled “Come Like Shadows.” Little has been revealed about the plot or contemporary alterations of this second adaptation, though like the “Hamlet” update it is being labeled a thriller.

Pete Travis, who has just been hired to direct “Shadows,” further describes it as being “a bold, sexy addition to my slate of films. It’s a powerful, tragic morality tale about personal and political corruption. An awesome, epic story for our troubled times, its irresistible tension holds the audience in a vice like grip, its raw emotion will break their hearts.” Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: According to Jonah Hill, the Internet thinks his idea to adapt "21 Jump Street" for the big screen "is the worst idea ever." Well, attention, online haters: The original star of the classic undercover-cop TV series, Johnny Depp, considers the project a pretty good idea. In fact, he's open to making a cameo in the film.

"If we find the right thing to do, it could be very funny," Depp told MTV News while promoting "Public Enemies," his Michael Mann-directed film about 1930s bank robber John Dillinger.

Harry Potter booksFor yesterday's inaugural eBay Prop-Watch I served up a little piece of film history that was excessive in every way. Today's pick is a lot more affordable, and it earns extra points for being an actual movie prop. Sure there are 6 days left on the auction, but there are also no bids yet and a moderate $50 Buy It Now price.

Oh, did I mention it's a prop from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"? No? Huh... you'd think I would've done that right off the bat! Read More...

Sam RaimiFROM SPLASH PAGE: While talking with writer Ed Brubaker about the return of Captain America to the Marvel Comics universe, the recent release of “Sleeper: Season One” (a collection of his 2003-2005 superhero crime series) reminded me that the “Captain America” comic isn’t his only project with big-screen connections. But what’s going on with the “Sleeper” movie these days?

Back in August, it was announced that “Sleeper” was tagged for adaptation with Sam Raimi producing the film and Tom Cruise starring as Holden Carver, a super-powered secret agent deep undercover within a supervillain cabal and left hanging when the only person who knows he’s one of the good guys falls into a coma. In October, word hit the wire that Hollywood newcomer Brad Ingelsby would write the screenplay for the adaptation, but updates have been few and far between since that time.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallenby Alan Kistler

This week marks the release of Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," the second live-action film to star the amazing robot warriors from the planet Cybertron. Most people were introduced to the heroic Autobots and their evil Decepticon nemeses through their various animated adventuress. As far as many are concerned, the original cartoon series -- the so-called "Generation One" era -- from the 1980s remains the best of them all.

Even if you liked the last film, you may be curious to know more about where it all comes from. To get you ready for the sequel, releasing tomorrow, here is a list of memorable episodes and story-arcs from Generation One that you might want to check out: Read More...

TwilightFROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: What girl doesn’t dream of snuggling up to her very own granite-bodied Edward Cullen every now and then? (Me: Guilty as charged!) Well, if you’re willing to trade stone for plastic, you’re in luck. Mattel has created its own Edward Ken doll complete with “shimmering complexion” and “trademark gold eyes.” And if it’s your thing, you can order a Bella Barbie, too. (The Toys “R” Us site, however, recommends this doll for people aged 6-7 years, but we’re guessing they don’t quite understand how vast the “Twilight” universe actually is!)

Mattel isn’t the first company to jump onto the Edward Cullen doll Volvo bandwagon. Earlier this year, we test drove another set of Edward and Bella dolls, which from the looks of it, had a little more meat to clutch onto while propelling 500 feet up a towering Evergreen.

Larry DoyleNovelist Larry Doyle must be flying pretty high right now. After all, the guy hasn't even finished his current work-in-progress, "Go Mutants!" and it's already been picked up for a silver screen treatment. He'll have to do double-duty now, penning out a script as he completes the book. I think he'll somehow find a way to manage.

The story is described by Variety as a "teen comedy/adventure set in a high school." Expect both film and book to draw heavily from classic Hollywood sci-fi; the idea behind "Go Mutants!" is that "all the tropes from classic 1950s alien invasion movies came true." Things are taken a step further than that even: years after the initial invasions, human and alien societies have commingled to the point that their children go to school together. Read More...

'The Last Airbender'FROM SPLASH PAGE: The new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” has hit the ‘Net, and we have your first look at it here on Splash Page!

Now, even though the new trailer keeps things simple and doesn’t reveal too much about the story, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things we can learn about Shyamalan’s live-action adaptation of the award-winning animated series. Heck, we’re pretty sure there are some of you out there who probably haven’t even heard of “The Last Airbender” until now — but that’s going to change.

Here’s a quick breakdown of “Airbender” alongside some shots from the new trailer. Consider it “Airbender 101? for the uninitiated.

CherCall it a hunch, but I think "Burlesque" already has its place in film history set. Not only will it be the acting debut of Christina Aguilera, but the modern musical has signed on the music icon of all icons: the one and only Cher. Yeah. It's going to be flamboyant.

According to Variety, Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl fresh from the cornfields of Iowa. Possessing one heck of a voice (hey, it's Aguilera) she goes West to pursue her singing and dancing dreams. The aspiring star winds up in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to become a star.
