A zombie Matthew McConaughey? The bizarre thought seems sure to get some of the A-list star’s fans screaming “Alright, alright, alright!” At this point though, it exists only as a persistent rumor that won’t seem to go away: Matthew McConaughey has a cameo in the upcoming film “Zombieland.”
We first got wind of Matthew’s role in the October 9th horror/comedy when we were interviewing the film’s makeup designer, Tony Gardner – the man who played a substantial role in bringing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” to life.
“Right now we are working on a movie called ‘Zombieland’ with Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, I think Matthew McConaughey has a cameo,” he told us at the time. “It’s basically the end of the world -– Armageddon -- the entire nation is zombies, they are trying to get from the east coast to the west coast. It’s a comedy, and it’s really funny.”
The star-studded flick already filmed a cameo with Bill Murray as a zombie, so could McConaughey be joining in on the fun as well? Anybody who’s seen “Tropic Thunder” knows that the star isn’t above a fun-loving bit-part every now and then -- but when we reached out to the “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” star’s reps for confirmation, they claimed to have never heard of the movie.
“[We do not know] anything about this project,” McConaughey's publicist replied. “Nor do we know anything about his involvement in a project such as the one you mentioned.”
Which brings us to Miss Abigail Breslin. The 13-year-old “Little Miss Sunshine” star was eager to talk “Zombieland” when we caught up with her recently at the MTV Movie Awards. “‘Zombieland’ is about the world being overrun by zombies, and four of the only people on Earth who are not zombies join together,” she said, beaming. “It’s funny and scary -- the zombies in it are pretty scary. It should be fun.”
As soon as I asked whether McConaughey was in the film, she suddenly got very quiet. "Oh…I…yeah,” she stumbled. “I can’t say. You have to wait and see it.”
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Matthew McConaughey as a zombie?
