Recently, we broke the news that Anna Faris, Christina Applegate and Amy Poehler would be voicing the Chipettes in December’s “Alvin and the Chipmunks” sequel. So naturally when we caught up with Faris recently, we got the “House Bunny” star to squeal on all the details.
“I’m a Chipette!” she said excitedly. “And they make my voice sound even more annoying than it already is.”
In the classic cartoons, Alvin, Simon and Theodore shared an open rivalry/romance with the all-girl band. Alvin’s counterpart is the adorable-yet-temperamental Brittany, while Simon shared a shy spark with the equally intellectual Jeanette. Finally, Theodore openly showed his affection to the kindhearted Eleanor, both of them admirers of the culinary arts.
“It’s really, really cute, really fun. It’s been great. I’ve been having a blast doing that work,” Faris said of the "Squeakquel," which has lately been bringing her and the other blonde-haired stars in to record their soon-to-be-sped up lines.
Although Faris sang for her role in “Just Friends,” we will not be hearing her vocal talents this time around since the filmmakers have decided to use studio musicians for "Squeakquel"'s music.
“They’re not letting me sing,” she sighed. “That’s how bad my voice is.”
“They won’t even let me be a Chipmunk singing,” Faris laughed. Not to worry because “[The Chipettes] do sing,” even if the voices belong to other people. “I think that’s the dirty little secret,” she said, grinning.
As for Faris’ favorite scene, she told us it revolves around a fierce chipmunk battle of the bands. “There’s a great singing competition; it is really hysterical to hear your own voice sped up the way they do,” she recalled. “Every time they do it, I’m sure I annoy the director so much -- because I can’t stop laughing. But it’s adorable. It’s a great cast, and it’s been a lot of fun.”
The Squeakquel, in all of its squeaky glory, will be in theaters on December 25th.
Okay guys, time to play director: Which Chipette should be played by which female actress?
