Over the course of an unlikely career, he’s been a fashion model, a rapper and the star of one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster franchises. Now, Tyrese is transforming once again -– and he’s recording a song for the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” soundtrack alongside a Grammy-nominated hitmaker.
“Me and Jewel, we finished the record, and we sent it over to all of the right folks,” the “Transformers” star told us of the track, called “Make it Last,” that he hopes to get onto the soundtrack of the June 24th film. “I don’t know if it’s going to make the soundtrack, but it should still be a part of the score of the film.”
Produced by hitmaker Babyface, the love song is meant to stand out from all of the film’s rock music, and was written to play over a specific tender moment between Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky and Megan Fox’s Mikaela. “It was all done at the last minute,” Tyrese told us. “Big ups to my man Babyface -- the greatest songwriter/producer of all time -- and Jewel for putting this all together with me at the last minute; we are just trying to musically be a part of the film. We’re all excited.”
Asked about the different styles between Jewel and himself, Tyrese said that the soft-singing Jewel is actually a big fan of Optimus Prime and his robotic pals. “Jewel is a ‘Transformers’ fan,” he said, grinning. “And once I explained [the idea] to her -- because obviously she hasn’t seen the movie yet -- what the moment was going to be where our song could be played, she got into that zone.”
Listen for “Make it Last” to be playing when you see the film in a few weeks. Even if it doesn’t make the soundtrack, Jewel and Tyrese fans can rest easy: the singer/actor promised that the fruit of his efforts will surface somewhere soon.
“Babyface wrote us a smash, man, so we’re excited,” he explained. “But, if anything, it will be on iTunes at some point. We’re going to definitely get the music out there.”
