He's a man who has many names: Doogie Howser... NPH... NPattz (patent pending). Neil Patrick Harris saw his career take a Tarantino-esque turn after a co-starring role in "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle." The boy who was Doogie Howser had suddenly become a man, and a really freaking crazy man at that. The newfound fame is likely what led to his starring role on the hit TV series "How I Met Your Mother." By the time the "Harold & Kumar" sequel came up, there wasn't really a question about seeing Harris return; he is integral to the series now.
Now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that NPH has nailed down his next two projects: a starring role in "The Best and the Brightest" and a support spot in "Beastly." This news come hot on the heels of Harris's appearance as the host of last night's Tony Awards ceremony.
In "The Best and the Brightest," NPH will star as one half of a Delaware couple who move to New York City's Upper East Side with their kids. Strife arises between Harris and his wife, played by Bonnie Somerville, as they begin the process of enrolling their children in one of the nearby private schools. Somerville's wife character is concerned over the social aspects of putting the kids into the right school, where as Harris's husband couldn't care less about how the neighbors perceive them. The film will be directed by "Green Street Hooligans" writer Josh Shelov, who co-wrote the "Best" script with Michael Jaeger.
"Beastly" is an entirely different sort of project, a contemporized re-telling of "The Beauty and the Beast" based on a book of the same name by Alex Flinn. The story follows a young boy (Alex Pettyfer) who is turned into a ghastly beast after he taunts a classmate who turns out to be a witch. Harris will play the changed boy's blind tutor. "Beastly" also stars Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen, and will be directed by Daniel Barnz.
Personally, I'm still waiting to hear confirmation that we'll be seeing NPH in the "Harold & Kumar movie. I don't care if he (*spoiler*) died in "Escape from Guantanamo Bay" (*end spoiler*). No fan will care. More NPH craziness is a guarantee for success.
Had you heard about either of these projects prior to Harris being linked with them? Do you prefer one to the other? Can NPH ever do anything to top his scene-stealing appearances in the "Harold & Kumar" movies?
