Die Hard: Year OneFROM SPLASH PAGE: While Splash Page usually focuses its energy on the leap from comic book to cinema screen, we're always down to report on the opposite translation -- and today, a pair of film franchises are moving into the paneled universe.

Boom Studios has announced that it will publish a prequel to the Bruce Willis-starring "Die Hard" action franchise as a comic book series titled "Die Hard: Year One," while simultaneously releasing a graphic novel version of "Jennifer's Body," the upcoming horror film starring Megan Fox and directed by Diablo Cody ("Juno").

Redman and Method ManForget about Siskel & Ebert, Kurt Loder and all the rest. When it comes to true, nuanced film criticism, two of the most knowledgeable cinephiles around are Method Man and Redman. So as we inch closer to Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, we tracked down the high-flying duo for their thoughts on this year’s best films.

“This past year?” asked Redman, who was partying at Hollywood nightclub Highland with his Wu-Tang friend. “'Zack and Miri Make a Porno.'”

“Mine goes back a little,” Meth said, “but I’d say ‘Hard Candy’ kinda f--ked me up in the head. Go get it. It’s a good one.” Read More...

With the MTV Movie Awards just days away, Lo Bosworth, along with celebrity stylist Wouri Vice, headed over to a private showroom in Beverly Hills to check out possible looks for the big show on Sunday at the Gibson Amphitheatre.

Lo, who is one of the weekend guest hosts for the big show, wanted to get red-carpet chic. So she and Wouri tossed aside all the dresses they knew wouldn't work and tried on four different little numbers.

Among Lo's top choices were a teal strapless dress, a peach minidress, a teal ruffled one as well as a hip-hop dress made of metallic gold material. In addition to all the dresses, she got the chance to try on some amazingly fabulous shoes and some dazzling jewels. Read More...

'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events'Earlier this week, "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" director Brad Silbering -- who also directed next week's "Land of the Lost" -- mentioned that a return trip to author Daniel Handler's universe has not been forgotten. His comments unfortunately didn't elaborate any more than that, igniting all sorts of speculation among fans.

Now, SCI FI Wire has caught up with Silbering and unearthed a few more details. The director had this to say: "Daniel Handler and I stayed in touch [after 'A Series...'], and I think just charging off and doing another live-action movie is one way to go... [but] what I got excited about was the idea of completely turning [the franchise] on its ear and finding a whole other medium in which to work." Read More...

Zachary LeviI'm a big fan of "Chuck." I love me some fine film of course, but I've been playing video games and computer games for as long as I can remember. "Chuck" the TV series speaks to gamers like few other shows on TV do, and that's largely because star Zachary Levi is himself quite the gamer. How fitting then that Levi will join the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" sequel cast as Dave Seville's (Jason Lee) "burnout cousin... who really just wants to play video games all day."

The news comes from Levi's exclusive interview with SCI FI Wire. "I play kind of like the new Dave," Levi said. "Dave is still in it -- Jason Lee is still in it -- but something happens that prevents him from being able to take care of the Chipmunks the way he normally does, so I have to step in...." Pixar's 'Up'FROM MTV.COM: The new Pixar Animation feature "Up" goes boldly where even live-action movies rarely dare. The film's hero, Carl Fredricksen, is a hunched and grumpy 78-year-old man, for one thing. We meet him, though, at the age of eight — a sparky kid with a yen for adventure and an avid interest in the exploits of a world-famous explorer named Muntz. When Carl encounters Ellie, a spunky little girl with exactly the same passions, they form a bond, and the picture takes wing on a surge of emotion. In a long, wordless montage we see their lives play out. They dream of the real-life adventures they'll have when they grow up. They marry and settle into an old abandoned house they'd discovered as children (it was the headquarters of their two-member explorers club). Carl works as a balloon salesman, and they try to save money for a dream trip to South America — to Paradise Falls, the last known destination of the long-vanished Muntz. But life keeps getting in the way — sometimes, as usual, tragically — and in the end, Carl is left alone, the dream he shared with Ellie still unfulfilled.

'Drag Me To Hell'Director Sam Raimi makes his long awaited and apparently triumphant return to the horror genre this weekend. "Drag Me to Hell," starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver and David Paymer, follows loan officer Christine Brown (Lohman) who ends up cursed after she turns down a mortgage extension for the wrong person. Her sanity crumbles as the world around her turns into a sort of living hell.

Now Raimi is far from the first filmmaker to look to the netherworld for inspiration. In the course of building this list, I found that there are surprisingly few horror movies that deal directly with Hell as a location, at least in comparison to other genres. That said, film in general is littered with references, reinterpretations and outright visitations to the realm of the damned. Heck (ha!), as the list below shows, even musicals aren’t safe from Satan’s touch. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The idea made total sense: Seth Rogen and James Franco were starring in the summer's baked-out action flick, "Pineapple Express," as stoners on the run from a murderous marijuana dealer. So when the two actors were set to come out onstage during the 2008 MTV Movie Awards to deliver the Golden Popcorn statue for Best Summer Movie So Far, why not have them pull out a monstrous bag of fake weed and light up a joint? Crispy comedy gold, right?

Pixar studios releases 'Up' this weekForgive me for being rather corny, but is there anything as sweet and simple as a balloon? No matter how old you are, if someone hands you a balloon your day gets just a little bit brighter. Who out there hasn't taken hold of one and hoped, just this once, that it would take off with you attached? Who hasn't wondered how many it would take to send you flying into the air? Few of us have ever dreamed as ambitiously as Carl (Ed Asner), the elderly hero of Disney/Pixar's "Up," which floats into theaters this Friday. Carl painstakingly figures out just how many balloons it would take to carry his whole house into the sky, and he flies away on the adventure of a lifetime.

In the spirit of Carl, I've decided to list five of Hollywood's greatest balloons. It was tough work, debating whether "James and the Giant Peach's" floating peach counted and how high Lex Luthor's (Gene Hackman) jailbreak in "Superman II" should rank against the rest. In the end, these are the five I decided on. Please feel free to share your favorites in the comments below. Read More...

Paul VerhoevenEven if the name Paul Verhoeven is unfamiliar to you, I guarantee you've heard of his movies. "RoboCop." "Starship Troopers." "Total Recall." "Basic Instinct." "Showgirls." The man absolutely excels at turning apparent trash into something fantastic.

The Dutch director is bringing his considerable talents back to Hollywood to direct "The Surrogate," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Don't confuse that title with "Surrogates," an upcoming graphic novel adaptation starring Bruce Willis and directed by Jonathan Mostow. Read More...
