Eli RothQuentin Tarantino's star-studded army of cast members were on-hand to introduce the director's new film "Inglourious Basterds" at Cannes this week, and a few offered some unbeatable quotes about what the project means to them. Variety reports that Eli Roth, who has already been rather vocal about "Basterds," served up "some opinions, along with co-stars Diane Kruger, Mike Myers, and Brad Pitt. Roth made his name as one of the directors blazing a trail for horror's new school of gore-nography, with films like "Hostel," "Cabin Fever" and the "Grindhouse"-hitched trailer "Thanksgiving." As you might expect, he did not disappoint with any unnecessary self-censoring in his assessment of "Basterds."

"I'm Jewish, and to me this was kosher porn, something that I fantasized about since I was a child," Roth told the audience. Read More...

Writer/director/actor/all-around nice-guy Kevin Smith stopped by recently to chat with MTV's Josh Horowitz on a variety of subjects. While the ever-busy Smith had plenty to say about his own work, he also managed to squeeze in a brief review of "Twilight." In all honesty, Smith didn't have much to say about the movie other than mentioning that it made him wish he was a 14 year old girl. It's his daughter who's the real fan, and she was brave enough to step in front of the camera so she could share her thoughts.

The verdict? The silver screen adaptation of "Twilight" is great and loses nothing even after its 10th viewing. You heard it here first folks: a thumbs-up from KSmith's daughter for "Twilight." Very high praise indeed.

Simon Cowell and Randy JacksonEven if you don’t watch the show, all it takes is a general awareness of pop culture to know that the eighth season of the hit TV series “American Idol” comes to a close this week. Finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen sang their parting shots last night, leading into tonight’s results show in which the votes are tallied and the winner, announced.

Of course, neither Lambert nor Allen will be free after the credits roll tomorrow night. There’s the usual post-season tour to think about of course, and the inevitable recording deals. There will also be offers to act, in movies, TV shows, shorts, commercials… pretty much anything you can think of. It’s the nature of that beast we know as “American Idol”: win or lose, you’ve got a shot at moving on to great things. Or at least just things. Read More...

Robert PattinsonRobert Pattinson just landed himself another leading man role, in "Bel Ami." The film begins shooting next year in Paris, the city of love. French author Guy de Maupassant's "Bel Ami," published in 1885, chronicles the rise of an ambitious young man from French soldier to powerful Parisian newspaper journalist. Although RPattz is all ready to begin work on the film as the soldier-turned-journo, he's also got "Remember Me" to worry about, which he's at Cannes to promote even though it has no leading lady attached.

RPattz has said of whoever gets the part that "the girl needs to be literally inspirational." With a resume that includes top-tier co-stars like Kristen Stewart, Rachel Weisz and Javier Beltrán (that was a joke, obviously), finding someone who fits Pattinson's bill is going to be hard. Gene RoddenberryToday is a glorious day if you're a diehard "Star Trek" fan. Note that I'm not referring to the new movie from director J.J. Abrams, but rather the thousands of hours of tape committed to various TV series' and films. Variety reports that "Trek" franchise owner Roddenberry Productions -- named for series creator Gene Roddenberry -- will release a DVD set (no word on Blu-ray) containing more than 500 hours of never-before-seen footage.

The content will include interviews, on-set videos and the like culled from the past two decades of "Trek." Note that fans of "The Original Series" and nothing else are in for a disappointment; all of those unseen hours of footage start during "The Next Generation" days and proceed forward from there through "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager" and "Enterprise." Gene's son Eugene will serve as the host for all of the content, though there are no specific details about what fans can expect to see. Read More...

Miley CyrusWith Zac Efron gone and Chace Crawford confirmed to fill Kevin Bacon's dancing shoes in the coming remake of "Footloose," there have been several rumors about which young Hollywood starlet might play Ariel Moore, the part originally played by Lori Singer in 1984.

It seems like every young woman in Hollywood has had her name tossed in the "Footloose" ring, and who could blame them for wanting to star alongside Chace in the Kenny Ortega-directed flick? Read More...

Dan AykroydTo quote the always-shrill Janine Melnitz, "We've got one!" After years of fan speculation and incorrect rumors, it looks like "Ghostbusters 3" is finally moving forward. And we're not talking about the upcoming video game. "Ghostbusters" star Dan Aykroyd, who along with Harold Ramis has been very much involved with the aforementioned game, said that there is a genuine third film in the works.

"I think we're going to be in production fairly soon," Aykroyd told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog. "We could be in production by winter."

Aykroyd has been championing a third "Ghostbusters" flick for quite some time, and he's finally been able to motivate previous cast members to sign up for another tour. Even the normally cagey Bill Murray will join the fray, despite years of gossip that blamed him for stalling a third outing. Aykroyd defended his fellow actor, saying that the blame lies on several sets of shoulders. Read More...

Daniel RadcliffeEarlier this week, we announced that Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart and Taylor Lautner will introduce the very first clip from "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon," during the 2009 MTV Movie Awards on May 31. You might want to keep a spare magic wand handy as well that night, as we've just learned that there will be another clip premiering that night, pulled from this summer's upcoming "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." In keeping with the previous "Twilight" announcement, it has also been confirmed that the clip will be introduced during the show by "Potter" stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

I may not be up on my "Twilight," but I've read every "Potter" book cover-to-cover (a couple of them, more than once). I have some strong opinions on what I'd like to see, not just from this clip but in the finished movie as well. Current "Potter" director David Yates has not been shy about cutting what needs to be cut -- as he sees it, of course -- and some of those decisions have left fans feeling a bit miffed. Read More...

Chris PontiusThis is definitely going to end up being the strangest news I hear this week, if not this month or this year. Sofia Coppola, writer/director/producer of "Lost in Translation" and "Marie Antoinette," is deep in the prep stages for her next effort, entitled "Somewhere." Now here's where things get weird: joining the already confirmed Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning in the cast is none other than "Jackass" and "Wildboyz" alum Chris Pontius.

Whaaa...? The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Pontius will join the cast of Coppola's "Somewhere" as the best friend of Stephen Dorff's protagonist. Dorff plays a popular Hollywood actor who is forced to re-examine his public persona when his daughter (Elle Fanning) shows up for a surprise visit. Coppola's "Lost in Translation" partner Focus Features will release the film, which is currently planned for a 2010 release. Read More...
