Let’s first clear up what a “family-friendly” horror movie is. Clearly, you’re not going to want to show this stuff to squeamish little siblings if it’s just going to scar them. Unless it’s part of your plan of course, but that’s your own business. Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me To Hell,” out this week, has been designated by the MPAA as kosher for all human Americans aged 13 and older. From what I hear, it’s also a hella scary ride.

Director Sam Raimi is very good at capturing disturbing imagery on film. Stuff that just doesn’t quite look right. There’s his “Evil Dead” series of course. And the hard-to-find classic “Crimewave” (written by Ethan and Joel Coen) is filled with twisted absurdity. Even “Spider-Man” had its share of chilling imagery and occasional jump scares. Raimi’s not the only one out there who’s interested in scaring children however. Check out these other examples of family friendly horror flicks.

FROM MTV.COM: Danny McBride might have the most comical fight nominated at this year's MTV Movie Awards — thanks to his brawl with Seth Rogen and James Franco in "Pineapple Express" — and he wants everyone to know that there was nothing fake about it.

"I'm thrilled I'm nominated. I've been watching them since they began," he told MTV News of the Movie Awards. "I think the one thing we have going for us is it was a real fight that was filmed, and Franco tried to diffuse the situation. Those [other] fights are choreographed. It's the showdown that a lot of people have been looking for."

If you grew up in the '80s, you remember John Hughes' classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." You almost certainly saw and probably love it still. For a child of the '80s, it's an easy short list pick for one of the most quotable movies of all time. If you somehow missed it, or never had an older sibling or parent introduce you to the wonder of Ferris's class-skipping ways, peep this clip.

There's a reason I picked that specific clip. Note the garage that that once-beautiful Ferrari is (temporarily) parked in. The garage is attached to a house in Chicago, a house located at 370 Beech St in Highland Park, IL. A house that is now for sale. It's the truth. Anyone can now own a piece of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Provided you're willing to drop $2.3 million in this particularly unsteady real estate market. Anyone... anyone...

Robert Downey JrFROM SPLASH PAGE: Just last month, Robert Downey Jr. told MTV News that he might not be starring in a feature film version of "Cowboys and Aliens" after all, despite earlier reports. But "Cowboys and Aliens" producers and screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman haven't given up on getting the actor to star in the adaptation of a Platinum Studios graphic novel.

The pair told SCI FI Wire that they have been speaking with Downey about starring in the movie.

As of today, the MTV News team is up and running at Universal Studios, home of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards! Preparation for the big show is well underway, and MTV News got the lay of the land this morning. After our 8:30 a.m. production meeting with "Hills" star and MTV News Movie Awards weekend guest host Frankie Delgado, the whole team headed up to the Gibson Amphitheater for a walkthrough of the main show.

Tim, Frankie and Sway hung out outside the the Gibson before our tour of the venue.

Inside, the set-build was in full swing. The lights were dim, and the monitors were flashing bright colors, lighting up to room. Read more...

Jonah HillJonah Hill has ascended the mountain of would-be Hollywood comedians to join the elite ranks of Judd Apatow-approved players, but the "Funny People" actor isn't looking strictly towards comedy as his career continues its path -- he's adding a little bit of action into the mix as well.

As previously reported, the "Superbad" star is writing and producing a remake of "21 Jump Street,", the '80s-era television cop show that Johnny Depp would probably like expunged from his IMDB record. Hill previously spoke with MTV News about the film, describing it as a straight-up comedy akin to the upcoming "Land of the Lost" remake. But for "Jump Street" stalwarts who can't handle the film taking a comedic tone, Hill's got some bad news -- the show itself was always a comedy, he insists. Read more...

Will Ferrell"Anchorman 2" just inched one meeting closer to becoming a reality. Somewhere in the mix of appearing on the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, promoting next week's summer comedy "Land of the Lost" on "Behind the Screen", and getting ready for the release of his next film, "The Goods," Ferrell managed to wedge in a meeting with the creative minds behind 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." Re-assembling the film's all-star news team, which included Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Christina Applegate, probably won't be easy, but the gears sound like they are finally in motion.

Ferrell told an Australian radio DJs Jono & Dano that he'll be meeting with "all the guys" from the first "Anchorman" next week to "figure out when and how" to map out the sequel, according to a report on JoBlo.com. Read more...

Here we have the last in a string of promos pimping 2009 MTV Movie Awards host Andy Samberg's guaranteed landslide. 11 categories, 11 statues for Mr. Samberg. There's even talk that he might put the smackdown on Generation Award winner Ben Stiller after the show and take that one too, but you didn't hear it from me.

Samberg certainly has the skills to get what he wants. Just check out this clip from "Gentle Dismemberment" featuring Rashida Jones. He doesn't even need to slaughter his victims; they know how bad he is. Dude's just that evil. Plus: Best. Moustache. Ever. Guaranteed win for Best Villain.

Lara Croft in a 'Tomb Raider' gameI've been meaning to serve up this news for a few days now, but the 2009 MTV Movie Awards train stops for no one. At the premiere of "Terminator Salvation," producer Dan Lin stopped to chat with About.com about some of his upcoming projects, particularly the planned reboot of the "Lara Croft" series (popularly known as an adaptation of the "Tomb Raider" series of video games).

Lin describes the project as a "character-oriented... more realistic" origin story for the popular treasure seeker. He clarifies shortly after that, comparing what he intends to be "character-driven action" in the "Croft" reboot to what audiences saw in last weekend's "Terminator Salvation." Read more...
