Here we are. Sunday, May 31. I know why you're here. It's Colin Farrell's birthday. Let's party!
Ohhhhhh... you're here for that other reason. The 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Yeah, that's pretty big. The show will be packed full with trailer/clip premieres from the likes of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "New Moon," and we're live blogging the whole shebang.
Will "Twilight" sweep the other six (now that Best Villain is out) of seven categories it is nominated in? Will there be a "Slumdog" upset? Perhaps a surprise or two? Keep refreshing here for the live blog and please, share your own observations in the comments section below.
9:00 pm: Whew, the sound's back. And Samberg is doing very dirty things.
9:02: Hey, Aziz Ansari beamed up Samberg! I get this reference! Spock's ping-pong cred is news to me though.
9:04: Glad to see he found his tux. Naked Samberg for the whole night might've pissed a few people off.
9:05: Farting ground rules. Very important. Looks like Souljah Boy's GOT THA MUNCHIES.
9:08: Mixmaster Mike > a keyboard playing cat. Give it up for the sexy grannies... and Megan Fox.
9:09: No fooling around, we're right down to the first category: Breakthrough Female Performance. And the winner is...
9:11: Ashley Tisdale for "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." Sorry readers, I didn't catch that one. Go Ashley though! Now we have Michael Bay... will he blow something up?
9:13: I dig the cat-bot in this clip. Big robots, but no explosions. Sadness.
9:15: And now for a quick word from our sponsors. What did y'all think of that "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" clip?
9:19: Hey! We're watching live. No TiVo's here. Samberg is right though; voting is still open for Best Movie.
9:21: Best Fight! My favorite category! "Twilight" wins. Shocker. Shall I ready my broom?
9:23: Time for some live music. From some unknown rapper. M&M? Just playing... Eminem is here and you should be excited. I really like this track, and the video that goes with it.
9:26: This musical interlude gives me time to track down said video. Here it is!
9:28: It wouldn't be an awards show without a hip-hop medley. Good stuff, Em.
9:32: Commercial break. Anyone care to share some predictions?
9:33: Finally some explosions. Thank you Andy. And "Neil Diamond."
9:35: I guess I'm not cool. If I were an action hero, I would watch every damn explosion with a crap-eating grin on my face.
9:36: Thank you as well Andy for saying the funny things that we can't. And thank you Jonah Hill for leaving me with an image that will haunt my nightmares.
9:38: RPATTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9:38a: Wait... what's coming out of his pants?
9:39: By the way, for those NOT watching at home (why?), RPattz (i.e. "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson) just took home the statue for Breakthrough Male Performance.
9:43: Uh oh. Here comes Bruno. Somebody alert Standards & Practices.
9:45: How is it that I'm 3,000 miles away and still a little bit scared of what he's going to do to me?
9:48: Zac Efron wins for "High School Musical." I can't really say much about that. Good for him though! Now this "Harry Potter" clip... aw yeah. Dumblydore's playin' with fire. If he only knew who that rascal Tom Riddle would one day turn into.
9:50: Like Ferris Bueller's life, the MTV Movie Awards move pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it. And by "it," I mean Bruno teabagging Eminem.
9:55: Wildly inappropriate. Bullock and Reynolds time. We have video of their pre-show prep you know. Best Kiss time...
9:56: Oh how I'd like to see "Wanted" win something. Anything.
9:57: RPATTZ AND KSTEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9:58: Ha ha... FAKE OUT. Now Jim Carrey has a mic. And he's calling Samberg out. How about it folks? Wanna hear him play?
10:00: I'm all about musical supergroupings, but this here is just weird.
10:01: Sing Forest, sing!
10:03: The Cheerleader and the Orbitz guy presenting the WTF Award. That actually makes a lot of sense. WTF with this pairing.
10:05: You know what these rhymes could use? A human beatbox. Congrats to Amy Poehler for being too super-busy to show up for her Golden Popcorn. Love that profanity. Keepin' classy, as always.
10:06: Leighton Meester and Lil Wayne. Moving on to Best Song...
10:08: Did anyone really think that Miley wouldn't win?
10:10: A "Teen Wolf" reference!!!! Night=made. Thanks Andy.
10:11: Twi-time. OME OME OME OME OME OME OME OME Shout it out Twilighters... what are you hoping to see from the "New Moon" clip?
10:16: Hahaha... "welcome back to the big commercial." I can appreciate that kind of self-aware fun-poking.
10:19: Oooo... cool werewolf. Of course I have no clue what I'm seeing. What do you fans think? Sound off! Remember everyone: after watching the trailer make sure to record and post your reaction videos at You R Here. We'll be rolling out your highlights in the coming days, so rev up those webcams!
10:21: It's hard not to love Ben Stiller. He went from hilarious in the underground to superstar to totally overexposed to totally awesome once again. Congrats to you, Ben. I CAN deal with that.
10:23: Efron vs. Triumph vs. K Sutherland: who gave better love to Stiller? Who was the most fitting speech-giver? Sound off.
10:25: Longest. Intro. Ever. In more ways than one. That foreskin fondue scene is pretty excellent though.
10:28: Wow. 18 years since "The Ben Stiller Show." Do any of you readers remember it? Hilarious stuff.
10:32: Commercial break debate: Eminem vs. Bruno -- staged or the real deal? Discuss.
10:35: No comment on Starf Leet.
10:36: I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not going to be a "Wanted" win in Best Female Performance.
10:37: KSTEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The "Twilight" core speaks again.
10:38: More live music time. Kings of Leon. Rawk!
10:41: "After the jump"? Hey! They stole our Internet vernacular!
10:46: Ferrell and McBride. With dead cats.
10:50: "The Yes Man"? Really? Congrats Jim Carrey. You look as surprised as I feel.
10:51: Wow... how do they broadcast his thoughts like that? This was definitely NOT prepared in advance.
10:53: Okay folks. We're zeroing in on the big prize. Will Team "Twilight" represent again, or will Team "Slumdog" yank out an upset? Sound off.
10:55: More importantly... who's staying tuned in to MTV for the world broadcast premiere of the trailer for "Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings," an upcoming vidya game for Nintendo Wii?
10:57: It's Best Movie Denzel, not Best Picture.
10:58: TWIIIIIIIIIIIIIILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was there any doubt? Did you hear that crowd respond to all of the other movies, and then respond to "Twilight"? The fans have spoken, and vampires are in.
11:01: Well, Miley's Best Song win ruined the "Twilight" sweep, accepting of course that Best Villain was a gimme for Ledger. Thanks everyone for tuning in and sticking around. As this was my first live blog, I can honestly tell you all it's the best one I've ever done! Click it back to MTV.com tomorrow for additional Movie Awards updates and behind-the-scenes revelations!
