I bet you thought I forgot about yesterday's category previews. That wasn't what happened though; time just got away from me. Lot of major developments yesterday on the 2009 MTV Movie Awards front. The big news for you Twilighters of course was the revelation that the "New Moon" clip premiering this Sunday will actually be the movie's debut trailer. There was also the revelation that there's still a to-be-announced mystery presenter, as well as the launch of our awards countdown widget, which will magically transform into a streaming video of the show when the clock strikes zero at 9pm EST this Sunday.
In short: it was a busy day. Here I am though, fresh and ready to tackle today's load of crazy. What better way to start than with a round-up of yesterday's previewed categories, along with a few predictions on the same. As always, I welcome your thoughts on my choices, your own choices or anything under the sun really in our comments section below.
Yesterday we took a look at the Best Kiss and Best Male Performance categories. Tight races in both categories, so we might as well get to it.
First up, Best Kiss. If you've been keeping up with these preview commentaries, then you know I've got a big soft spot for Timur Bekmambetov's "Wanted." The movie drips style from every pore, and every scene seems intent on out-cooling the previous one. The kiss that Angelina Jolie's Fox shares with James McAvoy's Wesley Gibson may be a fake-out, but it's a deliciously sensual one and a nice big "eff you" to Wesley's cheating girlfriend.
Of course, if my brief time at MTV has taught me anything, it's that Twilighters call the shots around here. Meaning that the RPattz/Kristen Stewart smooch in "Twilight" is a heavy favorite. That said, Thomas Lennon has threatened to do terrible things to me and anyone else who doesn't vote for his passionate shared moment with Paul Rudd in "I Love You, Man." So Tom gets my vote. You hear that Tom? I'm voting for you. No need to get violent.
Best Male Performance is a tough race. Zac Efron is one of the favorites, largely because his "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" nomination is the only non-action hero role in the running. Plus, he seems to be popular with the ladies. For me, it's between Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight" and Robert Downey Jr. in "Iron Man." Since "Iron Man" ended up being my favorite movie of last summer, and since I want to see Downey's renaissance continue, my vote goes to him.
Remember, it's not too late to cast your vote! And make sure to tune to MTV this Sunday at 9pm EST for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards!
