I can't stand reporting on rumors, for reasons that should be fairly obvious. This one was too juicy to ignore though, especially since director Ridley Scott's "Alien" just hit its 30th anniversary this past Monday.
Just remember: take none of this as a confirmation. I'm merely informing you all of what's going on in the hopes of inspiring a lively discussion. We're already off to a good start on that front, thanks to MTV Movies Blog contributor John Constantine's excellent breakdown of the movie, published earlier today.
Okay, here it is: Fox is apparently taking a close look at "Alien" for a potential remake or origin story. The news comes to us via a Bloody-Disgusting tipster. This is apparently the same chap who first revealed the now-confirmed "Predator" reboot back in January, months before its late-April confirmation.
The word is the Ridley Scott, Michael Costigan and Tony Scott are set to produce, and that they've turned to Carl Rinsch to direct. Rinsch has primarily made a name for himself directing commercials and music videos, but he certainly wouldn't be the first such director to make the jump to feature film. I'm looking at you Spike Jonze. And Michel Gondry. And far too many others to name. If you'd like to take a peek at Rinsch's work, /Film has put together a solid round-up of embedded videos.
The rest of the information is little more than bits and pieces. The rumor reveals that the plan is to stick with the original movie's approach of a single alien hunting crewmembers on their ship. Bloody-Disgusting also later received a second which suggested that the alleged planned remake could actually be an origin story.
Any thoughts on the possibility of an "Alien" remake? Would you prefer that origin story idea? Either share your thoughts below or check out Constantine's earlier post and then join in on the discussion there!
