Andy Fickman read my mind. The "Race to Witch Mountain" director is helming a musical production of 1988 teen flick Heathers. Yes, the dark comedy that introduced Wynona Ryder to the zeitgeist is hitting the stage. I know what you’re thinking: another movie-to-musical adaptation!? Well, some people cringe when they find out their favorite film is about to get the song-and-dance treatment. But others, like me, get giddy with anticipation. Plus, Kristen Bell might take on the lead role. Score!
This news got me so excited; I couldn’t help but hope that some other adolescent angst films will find their way onto Broadway.
So without further adieu, here’s a roundup of the top five high school movies we think should be sprinkled with a little musical magic:
"Dazed and Confused":
With the 1970s backdrop, quirky characters and cult following, how could this musical not be amazing? Throw in some covers of any of the rock classics that were in the original soundtrack and we’ve got ourselves a musical masterpiece. Think "Across the Universe" meets "American Graffiti." Reilly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and Christopher Plummer, "9” hits theaters in limited release on September 9 (in other words, 9/9/09). FROM SPLASH PAGE: When "Wanted" proved to be a surprising financial success, it was clear that moviegoers wanted more. But with Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' graphic novel limited in issues, it's hard to identify source material that could be mined for a sequel. But, as we learned from "Wanted" screenwriter Chris Morgan last year, that wasn't going to hinder a return to the story's supervillain-filled world.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of "Pooh's Heffalump Movie," has been pegged as the screenwriter for "Wanted 2." The sequel's script stems from a story idea by Morgan, previously tapped to be penning the sequel.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Though he's all over the map this summer with April's "Fighting," July's "Public Enemies" and August's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," actor Channing Tatum's biggest regret is missing the chance to play Cajun card player Gambit in May's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
Tatum, a self-professed comic book fan, holds the trench-coated mutant near and dear to his heart. According to Tatum, Gambit has always been his number-one superhero and one to which he feels a personal connection.
"Man, I was dying to play [Gambit]," Tatum told MTV News. "My dad's from Louisiana and I think I've always just gravitated towards Gambit in general. He's just cooler than anything to me."
To read the rest of Channing Tatum's thoughts on losing the role of Gambit, head over to SplashPage.MTV.com.

Yesterday Warner Bros. released the latest -- and possibly final -- trailer for the sixth "Harry Potter" movie, and judging by the comments on the video, fans are psyched! Everyone important gets ample screen time in the trailer, notably Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Jim Broadbent and Tom Felton.
Today the studio has released some stills taken from the trailer. Not the most interesting shots from the trailer, for sure -- there was a lot going on in that short video -- but still worth browsing through.

With his upcoming "Freeloaders" now in production with Broken Lizard, "Counting Crows" frontman Adam Duritz has plans to stick around Hollywood for a little bit longer and will gladly keep making comedies as long as his friends will have him.
"All the [Broken] Lizard guys and I have been talking about scripts to do together" says Adam, laughing as he thinks about some of the ideas they've been tossing around.
"I was trying to weasel a way for me to be in 'Super Troopers 2’ yesterday. The guys were like 'Whoa, whoa, whoa. To get that, you've gotta do this other thing... I told them, 'What if me and Willie [Nelson] do it together?' and they said I might be onto something." Read more...

We always knew that Nite Owl was the most sensitive of the "Watchmen" crime-fighting team, but Patrick Wilson's newly announced crossover into the realm of comedy is really sealing the deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson is set to star in "Morning Glory," a comedy from director Roger Michell for Paramount Studios. The actor joins an all-star cast that includes Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Jeff Goldblum. Read more...
