From Newsroom blog: On Monday night's red carpet for the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual gala, the focus was mostly on honoree, Oscar-winner and all-around swell guy Tom Hanks. That is, until our own Josh Horowitz had a chance to speak with Charlize Theron and the talk turned to stars of a very different variety.

As leader of the “Jackass” crew of crude, borderline insane daredevils, Johnny Knoxville has stepped in front of guns, professional boxers and ticked-off bulls. When he came up with the idea to make a documentary about an infamous, law-breaking West Virginian family called the Whites, he mission was just the opposite.
“Don’t get in the f---ing way!” he explained.
Between sips of strawberry-flavored Boone’s at the Saturday night after-party for “The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia,” Knoxville said that his approach to producing the doc was a necessary, if somewhat frustrating, result of having such a recognizable face. Read more...

On the Line: Technically, I didn't wait on line. I cheated and got tickets through a very nice publicist working on this film ... not to mention that I arrived just in the nick of time before the lights dimmed. I did, however, arrive early enough to ride the escalator with a woman who was shouting "Yeah, CBGB!" to people she passed.
Thankfully she didn't end up sitting near me once we scrambled to find seats.
In the Theater: The theater was packed. A full house. The look on many people's faces lead me to believe they had been a part of the CBGB scene, and they were excited to see the film. And they had a great time reliving the past on screen. Lots of laughter. Read more...

Bret Easton Ellis is the Los Angeles-born, well-educated, bestselling novelist behind such classics as “Less Than Zero” and “American Psycho.” Now, his 2005 book “Lunar Park” is being made into a feature film with an unusual A-list casting in the works; and the strangest part is that it isn’t even the weirdest role the actor has landed in the last month.
“’Lunar Park’ is in some state of pre-production. This is a very funny town,” chuckled Easton Ellis when we spoke with him recently. “Oddly enough, Benicio Del Toro I think is going to do it.” Read more...

It looks like the other half of "The Matarese Circle" might not wait for those pricey rewrites to be finished, as Denzel Washington might become "Unstoppable" instead. Variety reports that Washington is in talks to reunite with Tony Scott to star as the lead in his new action thriller.
Based on a script by Mark Bomback ("Live Free and Die Hard"), "Unstoppable" is loosely based on a true story, and would star Washington as an experienced engineer who pairs up with a young train conductor to stop a runaway train. The train is carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals, and as we all know what happens when an unstoppable force hits an unmoving object such as an entire city. Read more...

The crazily-coiffed Russell Brand is becoming America's go-to guy for comedy remakes. Brand is already attached to a remake of Dudley Moore's iconic "Arthur," and now he's set to drop dead in a remake of "Drop Dead Fred."
"Drop Dead Fred" was a very dark comedy released in 1991, starring Phoebe Cates and British comedian Rik Mayall. It centered on a rather damaged young woman named Lizzie (played by Cates) who allows herself to be walked on and dominated by everyone. After a day from hell when she loses everything -- including her job and husband, and is forced to move back home with her abusive mother -- she's reunited with her childhood imaginary friend, Fred. FROM SPLASH PAGE: Though he hasn’t seen a script yet, Matthew McConaughey seems to have changed his tune regarding a potential role in the “Captain America” film.
Late last year, McConaughey didn’t seem to know who “Captain America” was, much less have an interest in playing him, but repeated mentions of his name with that of the patriotic leader of The Avengers may have sent the “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” star to the back-issue bin.

"Twilight" stars Kellan Lutz and Edi Gathegi seem to be taking a few days off from their vampire life. And, if you're going to take a break from filming one of the most anticipated films of the fall, you might as well go to beautiful Australia. The boys were in town for the release of the "Twilight" DVD, and they greeted fans at a JB Hi Fi in Sydney.
(Check out more photos from the event in our photo gallery for the Sydney event here.)
What scenes do you think they could be filming back in Canada that these two were free to greet Australian Twilighters? Discuss in the comments below!

When the “G.I. Joe” live-action movie finally got a greenlight after more than a decade in development, fans of the series seemed to have two main concerns: That they’d mess up the look of the beloved characters, and that Marlon Wayans would be cracking too many jokes. And while I haven’t got much evidence to shoot down that first fear, I can tell you when we recently caught up with Marlon, he insisted that “The Rise of Cobra” kept his “Little Man” hijinks in check.
“The movie is serious, action and some comedy - but not all comedy,” insisted the star, who will bring an extremely different look to the High Altitude Low Opening jumper in the August 7th flick. “You pull off the reigns; I did what was appropriate for the role and for the character.” Read more...
