Drew Barrymore has been starring in films for nearly thirty years; now, she’s finally ready to start directing them.

As any good Twilighter knows, rumors broke recently that her upcoming rollerskating flick “Whip It!” is so good that it has Summit Entertainment contemplating hiring her to direct “Eclipse.” And with that Ellen Page-starring film hitting theaters in October, we wanted to know what important directorial lessons she employed while becoming a filmmaker.

“As a director, I worked scrupulously and endlessly for months and months and months before we started shooting,” Barrymore explained of her “Whip It!” preparation. “And I would get to work at least one to two hours early.” Read more...

Back when "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" came out, cinema pundits everywhere wondered if its use of nearly 100-percent CGI sets would usher in a new age of filmmaking. Its lackluster run at the box office put an end to that argument (with "300” being a notable exception), but that isn't stopping other forward-thinking storytellers.

Such is the case with "The Mutant Chronicles," a sci-fi action pic starring Thomas Jane, John Malkovich and Ron Perlman. In the film, humans are battling against an army of underworld NecroMutants, and true to form nearly everything except actors and props is set against a green screen. You can check out the results when it hits theaters April 24 (or VOD as of March 27), but for now check out an exclusive clip below featuring a steampunk-esque dogfight high above the earth.

The stars are literally aligning for the upcoming McG-directed "Terminator Salvation." With rumors of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton lending their likeness and voice talents, respectively, it was only a matter of time before another "Terminator 2” veteran got linked to the project -- the dreaded T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick.

In an interview with FEARNet, McG discussed the idea of having Patrick return for an eventual "Terminator 5” as a scientist working to improve health standards for mankind. He’s one of the funniest men in stand-up comedy. But when Jim Gaffigan recently got to shoot a movie with Zac Efron, even he had some lessons to learn about timing.

“He is so equipped for this mega-stardom, it’s kind of scary,” grinned the comic, who appears opposite Efron in “17 Again,” which hits theaters April 17th. “Obviously, after ‘High School Musical,’ [we know he] can dance and all that. And there is a dance number in there - and I am in the corner eating Hot Pockets.”

Despite recent rumors that Efron had given up dancing to pursue more adult roles, the 21-year-old star does manage to kick up his heels one last time in a “17 Again” scene. Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: With volume after volume of the original manga and hundreds of episodes of multiple anime series, it’s no surprise that next week’s "Dragonball Evolution" only touches the tip of the iceberg in regards to the epic mythology of "Dragonball." What is a surprise, however, is that a sequel has already been penned.

“I know they’ve written a second one and it’s pretty far out there,” actor Justin Chatwin told MTV News. Chatwin plays Goku, the hero of the tale, who seeks to recover the powerful "Dragonballs" and protect the world from the evil Lord Piccolo, played by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum James Marsters.

Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas aren't the only Cyrus and Jonas family members working together on new projects these days. Noah Cyrus, Miley's 9-year-old little sister, and Frankie Jonas, 8, better known as the Bonus Jonas, are voice actors in the animated flick, "Ponyo," by "Spirited Away" director Hayao Miyazaki.

"I actually have a movie coming out call 'Ponyo,' " Noah told the Press Association about the movie. "I play a goldfish in it, and I wanna be a human in it, and my best friend is a human, and I think that's where I get it from, and then I turn into a human. The guy who plays my best friend in it is Frankie Jonas, the Jonas Brothers' little brother."

"Ponyo," which was released as "Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea" in Japan last July, will be released stateside on August 14, according to Slashfilm.com.

Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin and Betty White have also been cast to do voices in the film. According to Slashfilm, Disney hopes to make the American release of "Ponyo" Miyazaki's "biggest hit ever Stateside." "Spirited Away" earned more than $10 million dollars stateside.

Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name, "Ball Don't Lie" takes it to the streets for an urban basketball coming-of-age drama. Sticky (played by rookie Grayson Boucher) is a 17-year-old foster care kid living in Venice, California, who discovers his talent at bball can open doors and cure ills.

Co-starring Nick Cannon, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Melissa Leo, Rosanna Arquette, and "Lost" alums Harold Perrineau and Emilie de Raven, "Ball Don't Lie" hits theaters June 5. Take a look at the exclusive trailer below.

Red carpets and movie premieres are places to see celebrities who have something to promote: an album, a new show, an upcoming film, a new clothing line, you name it. Although this is usually true, at the "Hannah Montana: The Movie" premiere last night in Hollywood, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato made it clear that they were there to show their support their good friend Miley Cyrus.

How can you tell? Body language. The girls were clearly glad to see each other, as evidenced by the genuine hugs between poses for the photographers. Vin Diesel promised at least two more "Chronicles of Riddick" sequels, taking his sci-fi action hero into the depths of the Underverse and beyond. Diesel, whose new film "Fast & Furious" hits theaters this week, chose his words carefully, but he hinted at some epic fight scenes to come in the third Riddick installment.

"There will be long scenes and long portions, full acts of just Riddick against the beasts -- or creatures -- isolated, which will be very compelling," Diesel told MTV News. "How that's interwoven with the mythology set forth in 'Chronicles of Riddick' is what we're waiting for from David Twowy, who's almost done with the script." Read more...
