If youâre like any of us at MTV News, youâre probably wondering what keeps holding up the big screen adaptation of âArrested Developmentâ from moving forward. Well, now we have our answer: the new Fox show, âSit Down, Shut Up.â
Mitch Hurwitzâs animated comedy debuted earlier this month, and between writing and producing that series, and developing other television projects, the âArrestedâ creator hasnât had a chance to start writing a script for his Emmy-winning Fox show that was canceled in 2006, says âArrestedâ producer/narrator Ron Howard.
âStill waiting on a script,â Howard told MTV News this week. âMitchâs television company was very successfulâgood for Mitchâand slowed things up a little bit for âArrested Developmentâ fans.â
While not actively writing a script, Hurwitz is still keeping the wheels turning when it comes to the Bluth family and their particular brand of dysfunctional dark comedy. âMitch is into it,â said Howard. âHeâs thinking about it. Heâs told me some of the ideas. Theyâre hilarious. But he hasnât pulled it together into a scriptâthat I know of! Maybe heâll see this and email me something.â
Howard also said that castmembers remained committed to the project. âEvery time I bump into anyone from the showâeverybodyâs excited,â Howard said, which is great news considering all the âis he in or is he out?â gossip that has surrounded the adaptation.
But donât expect casting news regarding Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and others any time soon: in February, Howard told us, âWeâve been asked to no longer divulge anything or get into the game of whoâs in, whoâs out. People are going to have to see.â
When the movie does get going in earnest, Hurwitz will assume directing duties, while Howard will produce. And, thankfully, heâll be hanging on to one other position as well. âNobody can keep me from being the narrator,â Howard said. âThatâs my gig, buddy!â
Should Hurwitz ditch âSit Down, Shut Up" and start writing the "Arrested" script? Or do you love his new animated comedy?
