While promoting his turn as L.A. Times Columnist Steve Lopez in April 24thâs âThe Soloist,â Robert Downey Jr revealed that heâs already making long term plans for a sequel to the upcoming âSherlock Holmesâ.
âI feel like thereâs going to be a âSherlock Holmes 2,ââ says Downey, obviously quite pleased with his experiences during production. Not long ago, Downey spoke to MTV News directly from the set where the general vibe looked like a lot of fun.)
Downey also revealed that it was his own wish that the film not delve too deeply into Holmesâ addiction to opium, keeping the overall tone fairly family friendly.
âI actually petitioned the court and said, âThis is a PG-13 movie. Let's just refer to these peripherally. So at one point, Watson says, âWhat are you doing, that's for eye surgery!ââ
A PG-13 rating should mark an interesting turn in the career of âHolmesâ director Guy Ritchie, known for his decidedly R-rated crime films like âSnatchâ and âLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsâ.
Not scheduled for release until Christmas, âSherlock Holmesâ stars Downey as the classic detective, paired with Jude Law as his loyal sidekick, Dr. Watson. Downey did joke that one character heâd like to see appear in the Holmes films is his own Tony Stark.
âA time travel thing,â Downey offers, âItâs a great idea. Iâll cross-pollinate my own double-franchise.â
He then quickly added, âThatâs pathetic. The fact that I even thought of that is pathetic.â
Is PG-13 the right route for a Guy Ritchie film? Are you ready for a âHolmesâ franchise? Share your thoughts below!
