Some random AICN reader calling himself ‘supastring’ wrote in to report that Tom Cruise was on some popular program called “Smap Smap” in Japan where he revealed that he has started working on the story for a fourth film in the “Mission: Impossible” series, and that he’s been “thinking about how to stage a big action sequence in downtown Tokyo.”
Some of you might bemoan the idea of another "Mission: Impossible" film but I, for one, have always preferred Cruise’s Ethan Hunt to Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, or any of the modern incarnations of James Bond, although to be fair, I am a Tom Cruise apologist who thinks the man is incapable of giving a flat-out bad performance.
Of course, this should be treated as just a rumor at this point but if “M:I:IV” were to happen relatively soon, we wanted to stay ahead of the development process and recommend 10 directors who might be a good fit for the series. Read more...

For a few years now, there’s been ample talk of revising the Sami Raimi helmed “Evil Dead” franchise with star Bruce Campbell telling MTV last Spring that a 4th installment of the horror-comedy film would not feature a younger sidekick to give it more contemporary juice as many sit-coms in the past have done so to desperately revive their ailing product. Back then, only a year ago Campbell was raring to go.
However, Campbell himself recently shed a little doubt on the project himself when he told the A/V Club that he felt there should be no more stories involving the Ash Williams protagonist he plays in the “Evil Dead” trilogy. "I think there should be an end to everything,” he responded when asked whether the character of Ash is worthy of more movies. “I mean, did anyone really want 'Indiana Jones 4'? The answer is no. I've taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up. You are bound to disappoint."
Sounds like Campbell might have had enough, no?
However, speaking to Sam Raimi at SXSW on the eve of the premiere of his new film, “Drag Me To Hell,” the director didn’t seem worried in the least and in fact laughed off Campbell’s remarks and insisted the actor would still be onboard whenever they can find time to revisit the beloved cult and campy horror classics.
"He can dream all he wants. He's trying to get out of getting back in shape,” he smiled. "I'm going to kick his butt in shape. I'm gonna say 'get back in the chainsaw!'" Read more...

Nearly a year has passed since Ain't It Cool News posted a potentially spoiler-filled rumor about the ending of "Terminator Salvation." The ending, if real, had enormous ramifications not only for the future of the machine driven franchise, but also its past. Now, Moviehole reports that the rumored ending will not see the light of day – despite the fact that it may have been very, very real.
According to Moviehole's sources, the film's third act has been completely remodeled "because of the leak. The ending doesn't resemble the previous one in any shape or form." Moviehole's report goes on to say that the ending's leak had McG and the WB quite miffed, resulting in a new conclusion that's "a complete [180] from the original film. Works better. Probably not as hard to swallow."
Check out the spoiler-heavy details on the original rumored ending after the jump. Read more...

Fred Durst, the Limp Bizkit frontman and occasional pop culture punching bag, staged something of a career reinvention a few years ago, leaving music behind to chase his dream of making movies. His first effort, the coming-of-age tale “The Education of Charlie Banks,” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007. Now, two years later, it’s finally getting a theatrical release—at the same as Durst’s life has come full circle, with Bizkit getting set to reunite for a new album and a European tour.
“Sometimes you feel like it’s cursed when something takes so long to come out and you don’t know if it’s going to really come out,” the 38-year-old Durst recently told MTV News about his movie. “So the anticipation and anxiety that comes with it has really paid off because I’m so glad that ‘Charlie Banks’ has waited until now to come out. I just feel like the timing is everything with this.” Read more...

We've already shown you one of the big "Twilight" events happening for the DVD release, and if seeing those pics made you jealous and you happen to live in the Los Angeles area, you can make it up to yourself.
Our friends at Summit have alerted us that three of the "Twilight" cast -- Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz and Rachelle Lefevre -- will be appearing in-person at Kitson (115 South Robertson in Los Angeles) from 2-4 pm Pacific time. For those not in the L.A. area, don't despair. Our very own Larry Carroll will be there to cover the action and we'll be bringing it to you right here on the MTV Movies Blog.
And remember, if you attend a "Twilight" DVD release party, send in your photos and videos to us. We'll be using some of the best online and possibly on-air!

We knew something was going on, but we didn’t know what. We knew somebody would be there, but we didn’t know who. The only thing that mattered, I guess, is that we knew it would be cool.
On Friday night, Summit Entertainment scrambled the stars of “Twilight” in a formation across the United States that would make any military proud. It was only appropriate, since the DVD was going on sale at midnight and the movie’s domination was once again being flexed. Here in LA, I knew precious little – except that we had to cover something, somewhere.
On Monday, I got a cryptic message from the studio, telling me to leave Friday night open. They told me I’d soon receive a “tip sheet” – Hollywood talk for a piece of paper that lists celebrities who are supposed to be at a red-carpet event. As the week went along, however, all I heard were rumors. Read more...

Summit Entertainment just released the new trailer for their upcoming horror flick "Sorority Row," and I gotta say — I think it looks kind of awesome. Is that just me?
The movie stars Briana Evigan ("Step Up 2: The Streets"), Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis and our very own "Hills" star Audrina Patridge. (Also in the film? Carrie Fisher, which is incredible.) In the film, a remake of "The House on Sorority Row," a group of sorority sisters accidentally cause the death of one of their own in a prank gone really, really badly. And if you watch the trailer, you see that — spoiler alert! — Audrina is unfortunately the one that gruesomely bites the dust. (Watch the trailer after the jump.) Read more...

I know it's kind of in vogue to pile on about crazy Nicolas Cage and what's happened to his career. But let's not blow this out of proportion. Sure he looks goofy in films like "Bangkok Dangerous" and "Ghost Rider" and yeah some of his work looks like spoofs of actual films rather than real films themselves. But let's give wacky Nic some credit. He's ALWAYS made seemingly bonkers career decisions (hmm...how shall I follow up "Leaving Las Vegas"? How about "Con Air"?!?) and much of his daring choices holds up.
And that brings us to "Knowing," a film that's a hell of a lot better than you might guess. I don't mean that to sound like damning praise. It's a throughly scary thriller. It kind of collapses in the end but the ride is well worth it. We talked to Cage at the "Knowing" junket recently and much of the chat revolved around his interest and belief in the paranormal. Here's a taste.
