Disney may have given up on a physical therapist Cinderella, but Fox Searchlight didn't, and now Queen Latifah will be putting on the nurse's scrubs and hoping for romance in "Just Wright."
According to Variety, the modern day fairytale centers on a physical therapist who is assigned to help a star basketball player recover from an injury. Naturally, with all that close contact, she falls in love with him. Hey, they don't call it physical therapy for nothing. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
The project was set up at Disney over six years ago, but was put into turnaround, allowing Fox Searchlight to pick it up. This is something they've had a lot of success with recently, particularly with a little film called "Slumdog Millionaire." They also have a good track record with Latifah (who will also act as a producer), as they were behind her last film "The Secret Life of Bees."
This will be only the second romantic comedy Latifah has starred in, which I find to be rather sad. Love or hate the lovey-dovey genre, wouldn't it be nice if Hollywood was a little more inclusive and remembered that romance and its pitfalls happened to women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and races?
MTV readers, do you think Queen Latifah makes for a good romantic lead? Should she stick to more serious films? Do you hate romantic comedies in general? Let's talk all about it in the comments below.
