Tyler Perry wastes no time counting his box office earnings, or contemplating deals. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he's already begun shooting "I Can Do Bad All By Myself", mere weeks after Perry and Lionsgate decided it would be his next film.
Obviously, Madea alone does not a film make, so Perry has brought Mary J. Blige on board to keep the already cast Taraji P. Henson company. (It takes Grammy wins and Oscar nominations to share the screen with Madea these days!) Blige will be playing a nightclub manager and singer, which means she'll probably land some of the musical numbers featured in Perry's original play.
"Bad" isn't much of a departure from Perry's other films. It centers on one of Madea's many granddaughters, who comes to live with her to escape an abusive, cheating husband. When Madea falls sick, the rest of the family descends, causing the usual Perry levels of tension, tears, and drama. But not even illness keeps Madea away from ushering in forgiveness and a happy ending.
The film is already shooting in Atlanta at Perry's personal studio. The film has a release date of September 11 of this year. Once "Bad" wraps, Perry will begin shooting "Why Did I Get Married Too?" to be released next April 2, 2010. Apparently, there's no rest for the wicked, and no sleep for a fictional grandmother.
