Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four") and Jesse Eisenberg ("Adventureland") are both generating a lot of buzz these days, and now the duio are teaming up for a dramatic project that might bump both to the next level. According to Variety, they've signed to star in "Kill Your Darlings", a drama about the violent beginning of the Beat Generation. Evans will play Beat poet Jack Kerouac, and Eisenberg will play Allen Ginsburg, alongside Ben Whishaw ("The International") who will play Lucien Carr.
The beginning of the Beat Generation is a bizarre and gruesome one. The group was brought together in New York by Carr, who was being dogged by a man named David Kammerer. Kammerer and Carr had known each other as children and teenagers, and Kammerer had become obsessed with Carr, stalking him throughout his university career. Descending more and more into madness by Carr's rejection, Kammerer eventually attacked Carr, and Carr stabbed him to death.
He served two years of a twenty-two year prison sentence, and event left its impact on the Beat Generation and their writings.
The indie drama is being helmed by newcomer John Krokidas, from a script he penned with his Yale roommate Austin Bunn. He's lined up a good cast so far, and it's a fantastic story, so let's hope it's one of those rare times that a true story is served well by the movie.
MTV readers, is this the movie that could finally make Evans and Eisenberg household names? Are they right for the parts? Do you think it's past time for the Beat Generation to get the movie treatment? Let's get literary in the comments.
