"Jonny Quest" may soon reunite Dwayne Johnson with his "Race to Witch Mountain" director Andy Fickman. The WWE wrestler turned actor chose his words wisely but indicated that some big changes may be in store for the project. He also hinted that getting "High School Musical" star Zac Efron into the new film's lead role may be more important that sticking to a strict "Jonny Quest" adaptation.
"From what I know they’re going to go in a different direction," Johnson told MTV News. "Other than that I’m not quite sure what the details are just in terms of the creative."
Asked what he meant by "different," Johnson stated that Zac Efron was currently too old to play the character of Jonny Quest as he existed in the cartoon.
"It’s important to be authentic," he said. "If you’re going to do that, Jonny can’t be in his 20’s."
That requirement would immediately eliminate 21-year-old Efron, though Johnson sounded as if the film's producers might budge to work him in to the film.
"He could be [Jonny Quest] if he was younger," Johson continued. "That’s what I’m talking about – taking it in a different direction – and having it not be Jonny Quest. That’s possibly the idea."
