Back in January, we brought you the news that Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford had joined Joss Whedon's highly anticipated horror film, "Cabin in the Woods." The film has been surrounded in secrecy, and the addition of two older male actors was the first sign that this wasn't just horror as usual.
But now the casting has taken a more predictable turn with the addition of some pretty young things -- a staple of any horror film. Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road") Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek"), Anna Hutchison (TV's "Go Girls"), Fran Kranz ("Dollhouse"), and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”) have signed up to be terrorized by Whedon and Drew Goddard. Their roles remain secret, as does whatever will be terrorizing them.
What isn't secret is Whedon's enthusiasm for his cast, which is largely made up of unknowns. "Finding this ensemble has been very hard and very rewarding. Each of the ‘kids’ is unique, fascinating and talented, and like true friends, the group is more than the sum of its parts. These are people you care about, able to go toe-to-toe with the amazing actors we’ve corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can’t wait to harm them.”
Production is underway, and the film is still aiming for a release date of February 5, 2010. If Whedon and Goddard can keep up the tight security, we might get to enjoy the scares they did in the old days before Internet spoilers!
MTV readers, what do you think of the cast of "Cabin in the Woods" so far? Would you prefer a big name or two to reel you in? Does the secrecy surrounding this film excite you? Do you think it will be more hype than substance?
