With "Twilight" attracting mobs of new vampire fans to theaters and bookshelves right now, it makes plenty of sense that Alex Proyas would want to jump onto his Dracula origin project -- "Dracula Year Zero" -- while ticket-buyers are biting. Right now, all that the "I, Robot" director needs is a lead actor.
"There’s this kind of discourse between casting and budget and trying to find the sweet spot in between," Proyas told MTV News. The filmmaker, whose latest movie "Knowing" comes out this month, speculated that "Dracula Year Zero" would be next on his docket with one word: "Probably."
Asked whether he favored nabbing a an actor with star power or an unknown, Proyas wouldn’t commit, but explained that casting Bram Stoker's original vampire is currently a hot topic.
"That’s a bone of contention right now," the director said, declining to say which he would prefer.
Proyas did, however, offer a few story details about the film's origin story.
"It’s Prince Vlad of Transylvania in the 14th century, and to save his kingdom and his family he takes his first step into darkness," the director stated. "It’s his evolution into the monster that Dracula became."
Who would you like to see play the world's most famous vampire in "Dracula: Year 0"? Would you like to see Proyas pick a star or an unknown? Post your opinions in the comment section below!
