Ben Stiller may finally have his "Meet the Parents" trilogy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Meet the Little Fockers" is rapidly becoming a reality at Universal.
There's no surprise what the film will revolve around, since Gaylord and Pam Focker were not only married but expecting at the end of the second film. Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Robert DeNiro are all in negotiations to reprise their roles, with Wilson's role being expanded. Somehow, we suspect his perfect ex-fiancee and minister will probably be a nanny or child psychologist that shows up poor Gaylord Focker in the ways of raising children.
"Little Fockers" has been in development for two years, but has encountered some speedbumps along the way. Now it's being revamped with a whole new creative team. Larry Stuckey's screenplay is being rewritten by John Hamburg, and director Jay Roach is stepping aside in favor of a new director. Three big comedy names are in the running to replace him: Paul Weitz ("About a Boy"), David Wain ("Role Models"), and Peyton Reed ("Yes Man") are vying for the job.
"Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers" made more than $800 million worldwide, and given that comedies seem to be a wise box office bet in this rough economy (look at "Paul Blart: Mall Cop"), you can bet Universal wants their "Little Fockers."
MTV readers, do YOU want to meet the little Fockers? Or has the premise lost its humor after it became a franchise?
