For the vast majority of us out there who would love to go to this year's Sundance Film Festival but because of dumb things like "work" or "expensive plane tickets" can't, the benevolent technological overlords at Apple have got our hook-up!
In a partnership with Apple's iTunes Music Store, Sundance and Shorts International have announced today that they will make available 10 short films selected to screen during the film festival as free (yup, free) downloads via their online media store (available in the US, UK and Canada only). The offer will only be available starting today through January 25, so film geeks should act now.
After the jump, check out the official announcement and a rundown of the films that are currently available for download on the iTunes Music Store. Read more...

Wrestlers aren't the only tough guys getting the dramatic treatment in the film world these days. James Toback's buzz-heavy documentary "Tyson" debuts at Sundance this year, and the film promises to provide an "intimate and moving no-holds-barred portrait of a humbled Mike Tyson."
And while some might be skeptical about matching the terms "intimate" and "humbled" with the notorious former heavyweight boxing champ, Sony Pictures Classics has already optioned the film in advance of its Sundance debut -- sparking quite a bit of interest in the project.
Keep your eyes on Movies Blog and Splash Page throughout the Sundance Film Festival for more news, clips, previews and exclusive interviews from the tireless MTV Movies crew. Heck, they've already started -- check out today's initial Sundance roundup and report.

Greetings from Utah! No, the MTV Movies team isn't on a "Big Love" reality tour (though we're psyched the show is back this week). The Sundance Film Festival is about to begin!

And so your friendly MTV Movies reporters (that's us up in the corner) have donned our snow gear (though it's currently actually colder in NYC. Who knew?!?) to bring you the very best of the fest.
We're talking to everyone from Kristen Stewart to Guillermo del Toro. From Nick Cannon to Ralph Macchio (I know!). Such is the breadth of Sundance. So keep it right here on the Movies Blog and Splash Page for breaking news, interviews and reviews, straight from our sleepless, dedicated team on the ground. It'll be fun. Really. Read more...

"Star Trek" stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, the new Captain Kirk and Mister Spock, were in attendance at this year's Golden Globes, so MTV took the opportunity to catch a few details about their experiences on-set and their thoughts on a potential "Star Trek" sequel. Both stars acknowledged that they have some mighty big Starfleet-issue boots to fill.
Quinto claimed that he's not too worried about Leonard Nimoy's reaction to his take on everyone's favorite Vulcan first-officer, telling MTV, "[Nimoy's] been very involved with me personally and with the film. I don't really have any nerves about that." Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Earlier this month, we brought you word that Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke were in talks to appear in "Iron Man 2" -- possibly as the pair of villains Justin Hammer and the Crimson Dynamo. Now, Rockwell is ready to talk about his confirmed turn toward super-villainy and expressed excitement in an exclusive interview with MTV News.
According to Rockwell, "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau originally considered casting him for the role of Tony Stark in the first film, but he's now on board to appear as Justin Hammer, a staunch corporate rival for Stark, in “Iron Man 2.”
"We had a phone conversation about it, and then I didn’t hear anything and that was it," Rockwell told MTV of early conversations regarding the part that eventually went to Robert Downey Jr. One blockbuster film later, the phone conversation was accompanied by an offer to play Hammer, and Rockwell accepted.

In 2008, "Twilight" superfan Laura Culpepper won a contest to be our MTV Movie Awards guest blogger. Now she's an MTV News intern.
It comes as no surprise that Robert Pattinson is one of this year's Male Pop MVPs. In a matter of months, the "Twilight" star skyrocketed from anonymity to become one of the most adored (and screamed at) actors who has probably ever lived.
To many, he is known as Edward Cullen, but what about the future? He will play Salvador Dalí in "Little Ashes," but he dropped out of the film "Parts Per Billion" due to "New Moon" obligations. Somewhere, a producer is crying.

While there is much in flux about Gus Van Sant’s upcoming adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s Zeitgeist-defining book, “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test,” which centers on the LSD-infused cross-country road trip that novelist Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters took in the 1960s, the director is certain about one thing: he won’t be able to cast his ideal leading man.
“Unfortunately, Heath Ledger was a pretty obvious choice, and he’s gone,” Van Sant told MTV News in an exclusive interview. But who else could play zany philosopher-king and “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest” author Kesey?
“There’s the opportunity that it could be Jack Black,” says Van Sant, hinting the film might possibly take on a more comedic feel. Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: In terms of "Iron Man 2" casting rumors, this month has been as crazy as one of Tony Stark's comics-infamous benders! Between reports that Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell could have roles in "Iron Man 2", coupled with yesterday's news that Samuel L. Jackson might not return as Nick Fury, there's been no shortage of news to keep fans of ol' Shellhead glued to the interwebs waiting for the latest reports.
Variety has more casting rumors today, and it seems that those rumors a few weeks back about Black Widow joining in on the "Iron Man 2" action were true, as Emily Blunt is now rumored to be the front runner for the role.
For more on Emily Blunt's potential Black Widow casting in "Iron Man 2," head over to SplashPage.MTV.com.

Hollywood and television icon Ricardo Montalban has died at the age of 88. According to a report by the Associated Press, a Los Angeles city councilman confirmed that the L.A. resident and star of “Fantasy Island” passed away at his home.
Montalban, who was born in Mexico City on November 25, 1920, appeared in more than 160 roles during his 66-year career that spanned comedies, science fiction, voice acting, and regular roles in classic TV series.
Best known for his leading role as Mr. Roarke in the ABC series “Fantasy Island” from 1978-1984, Montalban achieved cult status in pop culture and among Star Trek fans for his portrayal of Khan Noonien Singh in the original TV series and later more famously in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.” Read more...

Movie website href="http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-mcg-wants-a-bad-boy-to-go-20-000-leagues-under-the-sea-5987">Latino Review caught a nice scoop at the "Terminator: Salvation" preview in New York; it seems that McG already knows exactly who he'd like to see piloting the Nautilus in his recently-announced re-adaptation of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea": Will Smith.
These days, the name Nemo may call up images of an adorable cartoon clownfish but (while Smith has played a cartoon fish before) McG is looking at something a bit more faithful to the original novel, explaining that the charm of the character is in making him both hero and villain. Read more...
