Jason Segel, star of last yearās āForgetting Sarah Marshall,ā has already made it known that he intends to work with Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy and all the other Muppets. The question now, however, is whether Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and all Segelās flesh-and-blood funnymen will come along for the ride as well.
Last March, actor/writer Segel announced that heād be trying his comedic hand at a new āMuppetsā movie ā and was eager to fill the movie with cameos - hopefully making Jim Hensonās beloved puppet characters hip once again to the Judd Apatow generation.
āWe're several drafts in,ā Segel said of the filmās current status. āAnd just waiting to see if it's going to come together.ā
Although it may sound a bit off-the-wall for a member of the royal Apatow family to be revisiting such a classic (and undeniably clean) franchise, Segel is eager to play the music; heās eager to light the lights. In fact, you could even say heās eager to meet the Muppets on the Segel Show tonight.
āIt's a big decision to try to bring back that franchise,ā he explained, fully aware of the pop-culture cache that the series still carries ā as well as the nearly two decades of straight-to-video knockoffs that have soiled the once-popular puppets. āBut I'm really happy with what we've written ā so, we'll see.ā
Having worked in Hollywood for more than a decade, the āHow I Met Your Motherā star has built up an impressive stable of friends/co-stars. From Rudd (āKnocked Upā and the upcoming āI Love You, Manā) to James Franco (āFreaks and Geeksā āKnocked Upā) to the devastatingly sexy Russell Brand in āSarah Marshallā and next yearās animated flick āDespicable Me.ā But will these A-listers soon summon their inner-Muppet voice?
āI've told all of my friends that I've written parts for them,ā Segel revealed to us. āBut I have way less friends than you imagine.ā
Steve Carell hanging with the Great Gonzo? Seth Rogen and James Franco introducing Dr. Teeth and his band to some pineapple express? What Apatow-Muppet dream teams would you like to see Segel bring to the big screen?
