In 2008, "Twilight" superfan Laura Culpepper won a contest to be our MTV Movie Awards guest blogger. Now she's an MTV News intern.
It comes as no surprise that Robert Pattinson is one of this year's Male Pop MVPs. In a matter of months, the "Twilight" star skyrocketed from anonymity to become one of the most adored (and screamed at) actors who has probably ever lived.
To many, he is known as Edward Cullen, but what about the future? He will play Salvador Dalí in "Little Ashes," but he dropped out of the film "Parts Per Billion" due to "New Moon" obligations. Somewhere, a producer is crying.
I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Rob several times, and although we have a bad habit of embarrassing each other every time we meet, today I only have nice things to say.
(As you can see in the video below, he never thought I would make it as an intern here at MTV News — ha!)
Even though it doesn't sound like we'll be seeing much but Edward Cullen for a while, I believe he is going to have great success as an actor once "Twilight" is over. In reality, Rob is nothing like Edward Cullen. Anyone who has met him or seen him in an interview knows that he is really just a big ball of goofiness and sarcasm. He's nice to everyone and still doesn't understand why people like him so much. That's exactly why I think he is so talented. To be able to change yourself into a completely different mind-set takes a very special person, and Rob is definitely one of those people.
Personally, my fangirl self would love to see him in a true "bad guy" role. I think he has real potential to be believably scary and yet endearing at the same time (think Spike from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"). On the flip side, he would rock as a nerd.
And finally, there's his music. I think we are all hoping for an album from him eventually, even though to this point he hasn't expressed much interest in making one. Regardless, the future is very bright for Rob, and judging by all his previous projects, we have great things to look forward to.
What do you think Robert's 2009 will be like? What kind of roles would you like to see him play? Let us know!
