Every actor idolizes Steve McQueen and cites him on their list of inspirations -- so it's fitting that some hot young guy is going to get the chance to play McQueen. Variety reports that producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters are bringing a biopic of the rebellious actor to the big screen.
The film will be based on Marshall Terrill's new biography "Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel" and has the cooperation of McQueen's third wife and widow, Barbara Minty. The project will reportedly focus on McQueen's Hollywood career, his off-screen fondness for drugs, fast cars, and motorcycles, and his three marriages, particularly his tumultuous marriage to Ali McGraw.
While there's no doubt McQueen's life is perfect movie material, is it still too soon? His career ended in just 1980, his films are far from forgotten, and his directors, costars, and friends are still alive and working in Hollywood.
Can you really hope to cast anyone to play McQueen that is going to match memories of the original? How do you compete with a guy whose films are downright legendary, and watched as eagerly today as they were in the 60s and 70s? The actor who tries is going to have to be larger than McQueen himself -- or so unknown that he'll vanish in the part.
MTV readers, do you think any actor can be Steve McQueen? Is it impossible to make a biopic of the guy? Who would you choose to imitate the actor?
