After his brilliant turn as Harvey Dent in 'The Dark Knight," one would expect the handsome Aaron Eckhart to be signing onto big A-List roles right and left. But he's remained relatively quiet, taking no big parts, just working on "Traveling" with Jennifer Aniston.
However, it looks like Eckhart might be ready for that to change. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he's just signed onto Columbia's sci-fi thriller "Battle: Los Angeles." It will be the first time he's really played the action hero, and been front and center of the action.
The story centers around a Marine platoon, who battle alien invaders right in the middle of Los Angeles. Eckhart will play the platoon commander.
Details are scarce, but it will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, from a script penned by Chris Bertolini. So far, script reviewing sites like Latino Review haven't given the story very high praise, but there must have been something to the project that attracted Eckhart -- well, besides the temptation of running around in uniform, shooting at vicious aliens.
Eckhart is an actor who really deserves a solid role and a franchise -- will this be the movie that catapults him into the really big leagues? Or will this be "The Core" all over again, seeing the handsome Eckhart playing second fiddle to bigger names, headlining only in indie films? Let's hope not, if only so we get a film to rival "Alien" and not just a "Cloverfield" ripoff.
Does "Battle: Los Angeles" sound like something you'll enlist for? Can you see Eckhart as an action star? Chime in below.
