Who would have ever thought Steve Carell would suffer from a Napoleonic complex? According to Variety, he's signed on to play the title role in "The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard," a comedy set during the Napoleonic Wars.
The movie is based on a series of stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (who seems to be enjoying a Hollywood renaissance lately) and follows Brigadier Gerard, who is convinced he is the bravest soldier, the greatest with swords and horses, and the handsomest and most gallant lover in all of France. He is, of course, believing this with the greatest humility.
Gerard loyally follows Napoleon from his earliest days to his permanent exile, surviving every campaign, and always coming out ahead. It sounds like the perfect role for Carrell -- doesn't Brigadier Gerard sound like a luckier version of "The Office's" Michael Scott? And what's funnier than tight pants, jokes about the French, and grueling Russian campaigns?
No director has been attached yet, but the script was penned by John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, the team behind "Blades of Glory." Don't get too excited about seeing Carrell brandish a sword, though -- the role is one of several he's considering during downtime from "The Office," and it could easily be delayed or dumped altogether.
Sound off, readers -- eager to see Carrell tackle the Napoleonic era? Or do you think it's just more of the same old humor from him?
