‘Lost’ Actress Rebecca Mader Joins ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’

Rebecca MaderIt isn’t an all-boys club any longer on the set of George Clooney’s “Men Who Stare At Goats.” The Hollywood Reporter has announced the addition of Rebecca Mader, who you saw on “Lost” last season. She played Charlotte, the red-haired and crisply English schemer, and proud member of those murderous “rescuers.”

And she really is joining quite the boys club, as “Goats” boasts not only Clooney, but Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges — and the coolest title I’ve seen for a movie all year.

The film is based on a book by Jon Ronson, who investigated a secret wing of the U.S. First Earth Battalion, a paranormal research unit. The Battalion’s ultimate goal was the creation of supersoldiers that could rival the Jedi and X-Men for superpowers — they would be able to walk through walls, become invisible, and kill living things just by thinking about them. If it doesn’t scare you enough to think the military actually spent money on this sort of thing, consider that several First Battalion soldiers were re-activated for our war in Iraq.

Unfortunately, Mader won’t get to play a female supersoldier — she’s in the role of McGregor’s wife. McGregor plays a reporter stationed in Iraq who stumbles on the story of Lyn Cassady, played by Clooney, who claims to have killed a goat just by staring at it long enough.

And so our tale begins — and if you’re guessing Bridges and Spacey play other re-activated supersoldiers, you would be right. It’s going to be one crazy movie — and while Mader’s role sounds thankless, who wouldn’t want to be on that set?

Now over to you, readers. Don’t you want to see Clooney kill goats with the power of thought? Or does this sound more like a plotline belonging to Mader’s “LOST” character?
