Eric Bana is one of those actors who toys with full-fledged, American A-List stardom, but he never quite gets there. Maybe it's intentional, maybe not, but his upcoming slate (which includes the hotly anticipated "Star Trek" and "The Time Traveler's Wife") might just propel him there -- and he may have a pretty juicy follow-up in "Armored."
According to Variety, Bana is set to star in Millennium Films' remake of the 2004 French film "Le Convoyeur," with F. Gary Gray in talks to direct.
Bana plays a man who takes a job for an armored car company (haven't you always wanted to ride or drive in one of those?) and makes extra nice with his coworkers. His work buddies like him so much, they let him in on their plans for a big heist -- but what they don't know is that he's in the armored car/heist business for his own personal reasons. (Incidentally, if you were hoping to check out the French original, you'll have to brush up on your linguistics, as it has yet to be released with subtitles.)
The role has appealed to the race-car loving Bana for some time, but he took off to torment the U.S.S. Enterprise for J.J. Abrams. "Trek" may once again get in between Bana and "Armored," as the film is scheduled to shoot April 1st, which could conflict with his promotional duties. But let's hope not -- I'd love to see Bana take on a thriller like this. It sounds like the kind of action movie we used to get in the 1970s, doesn't it?
So, what do you think? Eager to see Bana get behind the wheel? Sick of remakes, even if you haven't seen the foreign original? Tell us below!
