Everyone knows the story of Tom Thumb -- a man no bigger than your favorite finger, who is always getting into frightening accidents due to his tiny size. He's like the medieval Mr. Bill, only he usually escapes being squashed or eaten just in the nick of time. And now Hollywood Reporter says the legendary character is getting a new feature treatment courtesy of Warner Bros., with Tom going the CGI route in a live-action world, a la "Alvin and the Chipmunks."
While personally I'm freaked out by the entire concept of a little man smaller than an action figure, the studio has lined up some surprising talent for this. At the helm will be director Kevin Lima, who was behind the wonderful "Enchanted." And the script is being penned by Robert Rodat, who boasts none other than "Saving Private Ryan" on his resume.
Rodat is giving the folk character a bit of a make-over. Instead of just being a weird accident, he's an arrogant knight who is assigned to guard a princess. His bad behavior finds him being shrunk down to a mere six-inches, at which point he discovers what being a real hero is all about.
With the right actor in the part, this could be a lot of fun -- and who wouldn't like another movie in the vein of "Enchanted"? What do you think, readers? Are you just too old for fairy tales, or could this one lure you in? And which actor do you think is big enough to take on this small role?
