David Banner Leads Gang Of Rappers In ‘Days Of Wrath,’ Calls Film The Next ‘Scarface’

David BannerDavid Banner is about to get angry — in his next feature film, “Days of Wrath.” The rapper, whose real name is Lavell Crump, plays a guy named Kryme, and as you might guess from that moniker, he’s a bit of a gangsta.

“I’m the head of a gang,” Banner said.

“Days of Wrath”, which also includes appearances from rappers Rick Ross, Kurupt, and Slim Thug, follows two rival gangs in Los Angeles — a Latino gang which counts Wilmer Valderrama as a member, and the black gang lead by Banner. Valderrama’s thug character, Danny Boy, sets off a gang war after he steals a rapper’s car and his stray bullet kills the mother of one of his own gang members.

A local news station decides to start reporting on the gang warfare, thinking it would be good for ratings, but things get complicated when the news director realizes that the woman that was killed is an ex, and her son Mario (played by Jesse Garcia) seeking revenge is actually his. No one wants the gang warfare — expect perhaps Mario and Danny Boy — but certainly not the rival gang caught in the middle.

“The thing is, he really was trying to take his people in another direction,” Banner said. “You try to keep the streets calm, but when you’re in a leadership position, you have to protect you and yours.”

Banner predicts the film, which also stars Laurence Fishbourne, Taye Diggs, and Amber Valletta will be the next “Scarface” for its gritty depiction of internal gang workings.

“It’s based on a lot of things that have happened in L.A.,” he said, “and I think people will enjoy it. It’s going to be a blockbuster.”
