Earlier this month, the BBC reported that legendary band Radiohead was so pleased with being asked to contribute a song to the new movie “Choke,” that they, in fact, wound up creating the film’s whole score.
“The WHOLE score,” “Choke” director Clark Gregg joked. “[In fact] they wrote most of the script. They did a lot of the catering. They actually hand sewed most of the costumes but because they don’t want people to know how much work they did we’ve promised to keep it secret. For now we’re just saying they gave us the one song.
“My role actually performed by Thom Yorke,” Gregg continued, laughing. “But I cant reveal that for another six years. It’s just a part of the contract.”
If it wasn’t obvious from Gregg’s statements, the fact that The Playlist actually went to the trouble of talking to the film’s music supervisors a few weeks ago should clue you into the fact that the whole thing is something of a big mistake.
A Radiohead song, "Reckoner", is indeed in the film (it plays over the end credits) but that’s about as far as it goes. It’s not even a new song.
So how did the whole thing start anyway?
“I think there was some confusion. I think it came out of a trip to Europe that Chuck and I made. Suddenly BBC radio was reporting that Radiohead had done an original score,” Gregg said. “I wrote them a letter of apology and just to make it up to them I went to their concert in LA and worshipped them."
Next time, Radiohead fans.
But are you bummed the band won’t be scoring the film? Would you want to see the movie more if they were? Sound off below.
