Thereâs a distinct possibility that author Chuck Palahniuk and director David Fincher are seriously messing with us when it comes to a âFight Clubâ musical, which the auteur himself first alluded to in an interview with MTV News this past January.
On the one hand, Palahniuk keeps talking about it with us, most recently during an interview for the latest movie to be adapted from one of his novels, âChoke.â On the other hand, itâs absolutely, positively ridiculous. Or, as âFight Clubâ co-star Jared Leto remarked when we asked about it in April, âI think thatâs the funniest thing Iâve ever heard in my life."
âIt seems bizarre but then âWest Side Storyâ probably seemed bizarre at the time it was made,â Palahniuk countered.
Taking the idea at face-value is actually more fun, anyway, since it gives us the opportunity to dream up all sorts of cool song and dance numbers for the production (not least of all, of course, being the âI Am the All-Singing, All Dancing Crap of This World,â piece, which will close Act I).
So what sequence does Palahniuk himself think will be the showstopper?
âIt might be [the narrator] coming back to the support groups,â he laughed. âItâs a scene they didnât do in the movie where the character is unmasked and humiliated and the support group actually redeems and rescues the character.â
What would be your guess for a âFight Clubâ musical showstopper? What could some of the songs be titled? Would you even want to see this thing? Sound off below.
