Last time MTV got a chance to hang out with Seth Rogen, he told us that he was writing jokes on “The Hills” in preparation for his upcoming role in the new Judd Apatow directed comedy about the world of stand-up.
So when we met up with the gregarious 26-year-old at Comic-Con we just had to know what jokes made the cut.
“I bailed on ‘The Hills’ bit,” Rogen sighed. “I started doing stand-up and I’ve done it a few times and I don’t have any Hills jokes. I feel upset about that. I realized you don’t have to be smart to write a joke making fun of ‘The Hills.’ ‘The Hills’ makes fun of itself.”
Rogen’s right, of course, about “The Hills” making fun of itself. But with all that Spencer and Heidi material now out the window, what is Rogen using to fill the gaps? Fans of his previous work may be surprised to learn that he’s taking a much more adult approach.
“A MUCH more mature path,” Rogen laughed. “Masturbation and testacles and things of that nature. I’m really branching. It’s very elevated comedy.”
But don’t worry if you can’t make it out to the UCB Theater in Los Angeles (where Rogen is performing his act), the comic said, you’ll get to see him bomb soon enough. All the jokes he performs, as well as those of co-stars Adam Sandler and Eric Bana actually WILL be in the movie, he revealed.
“Yes, we’re trying out jokes that could potentially be in the movie,” he said, denying that his stand-up was merely preparatory. “We want to shoot the stand up performances live so any of these could work our way into our sets.”
One thing you won’t see in the movie, however, is Apatow himself, who, despite being a former stand-up, won’t be venturing in front of the camera, Rogen said.
“I don’t think so,” he said. “It could be funny to see him doing stand-up, but we didn’t have any plans for that.”
