With Jack Black Returning, Would You See A ‘School Of Rock’ Sequel?

Jack Black in 'School of Rock'Back at the Cannes film festival, Jack Black made news when the comedian touted that he’d be down for a sequel to his generation-spanning surprise hit, “School of Rock.” When we caught up with Black however, he revealed the one caveat to the deal…don’t expect him back without original helmer Richard Linklater re-claiming the director’s chair. Well, it looks like he got his wish.

Variety is reporting that Linklater, Black and screenwriter Mike White (who also played Black’s best friend) are once again joining forces to bring kiddie-delivered rock ‘n’ roll to the masses. “I love to rock…I love making movies,” Black told us about the prospect of returning as wacky rock prof Dewey Finn. “So it is kind of like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, you put the acting and the rock together in a delicious sweet chocolately smash.”

The trade mag reveals the working storyline involves Black bringing his class on a “cross-country field trip that delves into the history of rock ‘n’ roll and explores the roots of blues, rap, country and other genres.” So that begs the question…does that sound like something you’d throw down hard dollars for? The original was massively hyped as the must-see cute comedy of the year; can a second helping come close to touching that? Chime in below and let us know your thoughts.
