‘Twilight’ Makes The Cover Of ‘EW’: What Do You Think?

My first thought is: WOW! “Twilight” made the cover of “Entertainment Weekly”!

I guess this means the cat is officially out of the bag, Twilighters. The little secret that you folks have lovingly shared for years is now famous enough to sell big-time magazines. And after the high-visibility release of next month’s “Breaking Dawn” and all the TV appearances, billboards and events that will build up to the movie’s release (including Comic-Con later this month), it’s just going to continue to grow.

But my second thoughts have to do with the image itself: First off, is that even Kristen Stewart? Wow, she looks so completely different than she does in real life! Honestly, she seems so glammed out to me that the girl-next-door charms of Stewart (and Bella for that matter) seem to have been muted, replaced instead with what looks like a generic woman on the cover of a Fabio romance novel.

Then there’s RPattz: That patch of bare chest will undoubtedly make a few thousand fangirls swoon. But when you read the books, did you guys imagine Edward’s bod to be quite so … well … pasty? As an Irish guy, I can tell you: It’s hard to land a girl when your chest is whiter than Ed Begley Jr. at a Wu-Tang Clan concert. Sure, it warms the heart to see the “Twilight” film sticking close to the undead realm Stephenie Meyer imagined, but let’s just hope Catherine Hardwicke inserts a scene where Edward spends some quality time on the beach.

But seriously: I do like the cool touch of having Bella hold the apple, and overall I think the image does a fine job of coveying the epic quality of their romance. You can clearly see that this is Romeo and Juliet, not another lame Matthew McConaughey-Kate Hudson flick using romance as a gimmick to suck $10 out of your pocket on date night. Get ready, Twilighters, because a whole lot of new fans are about to be vamped.

Enough about my thoughts: What do you think about the “EW” cover? How would you have done it differently, if at all? And how do you feel about the “Twilight” fanbase growing by leaps and bounds?

The actress looks very vacant in it. Like there's nothing going on behind the eyes. The actress herself is rather plain so they've worked over time on this to make her look pretty.

His hair sucks. Her makeup needs less layers. They look so posed and uncomfortable. I don't think Robert's element is the same as Fabio's. I will say the only thing I like is the apple. The set up could definitely be improved upon though. I'm just worried that the people who have no clue what Twilight is will be turned off by this cheesy picture. If I weren't in the know I would swear off seeing the movie.

They both look awkward, Kristen is too dolled up and Rob (i don't like to admit) reminds me of the chubby kid who gets picked last for dodge ball (sorry).

Before I remove the filter from my thoughts, let me say that I am a big fan of the Twilight series, and I have supported the decisions that the film makers and casting directors have made, so I have nothing negative to say about Summit (and I know they have nothing to do with this image) or the cast members (I LOVE them all).

OK, here goes.

My first impression when I first saw this cover: I don't like it.
My second impression and after staring at the cover for a good 30 seconds: I don't like it.
This, coming from an avid EW reader. I'm really disappointed in whoever approved this particular image to be used as the EW cover to represent the Twilight movie. It doesn't showcase Rob and Kristen very well, and it certainly does not do Rob justice. As Larry said, there's something about the way Kriten's been dolled up and photoshopped that takes away one of the endearing qualities of Bella - the girl-next-door look is gone. And really... there is something so Harlequin-romance about this image.

And whoever created this image doesn't seem to have read the books. It looks that way since one of the major features of Edward - his TOPAZ eyes - is no longer there.

I can certainly sympathise with all the Twilighters who are either saddened, angered, or down right offended by this representation of Edward/Bella (or Rob/Kristen). I'm usually one to savour everything Twilight, and I must say this is the first time I'm just shaking my head in disappointment. I'm grateful that neither Summit nor Stephenie had anything to do with the decision to use this image.

The picture is terrible. The first time I saw it on the 9th on Stephenies' site, I had to do a mental double take. It looks nothing like Bella, nothing like Edward, nothing like Kristen, and nothing like Rob. It's horrible. Kristen looks like she was literally thrown in there. She's just standing there like a lifeless doll. There's nothing Bella-esque about her.
&Edward is terrible. He's not cute or handsome or dazzling or gorgeous or god-like in the least bit. I mean, Robert brought his own thing to the movie and the view of Edward, but still. This is done at a horrible angle, his expression is terrible, his eyes look dead, not 'thirsty,' just ughhhhh. &I hate that you can see chest hair on him. I never once pictured the marble statue known as Edward to have hair on his chest. &speaking of hair, his looks gross. It's not in it's normal disarroy we're used to seeing on Edward. It looks more or less like the style he sported when playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter.
It's disappointing, terrible, and disgusting. sorry.

Hi!

I'm a fan from Belgium and I was totally shocked when I saw this cover. It's ghastly!

Bella/ K. Stewart looks absolutely beautiful, but far too retouched to be Bella-like. Edward/ R. Pattinson looks like he has a bad hangover and woke up with a dead rat sticking to his head. (No offense to the actors intended, it's the fotographer and stylists who should be ashamed of themselves. Aren't you suppose to be professionals?!). I'm actually surprised anybody who has anything to do with the movie or books has okayed this. It's not really flattering publicity...
Anyway, leave the guy's shirt on next time, do something about the hair and please lay off the heavy duty photoshop.

Furthermore it's great that more people are getting to know and love Twilight.

PS thanks so much Larry for bringing us all this news. You're the greatest! (don't listen to the fans that grumble when you give us a non-movie related story, we don't REALLY want to see the whole movie already, do we?)

Uummm ewww! Who did that? They obviously did NOT read the book and have no concept of who Edward and Bella are!

To start with Edward's hair is HORRIBLE!! Then .. hello!! ... his eyes... they shouldn't be BLUE! They should be topaz, a brilliant gold meant to "dazzle" you. Then there's the issue of him being freakishly white and wearing WAY too much makeup. Blech!

And Bella... I mean really!! She would NEVER wear that dress or SO much makeup! Kristen looks beautiful... BUT that's not Bella.

Take a hint from the movie trailer, posters, and TONS of stills. This shouldn't have been so hard.

As much as I LOVE the fact that "Twilight" is on the cover (and I really do!!) .....They TOTALLY MISSED THE MARK!!

it looks more like BEAUTY & THE BEAST than edward and bella. I'm not into chest hair so..ewwwww. Edward does not have chest hair!!! Is it just me or does anybody feel irritated and threatened when more and more people get to know edward and bella? it's like i want them all to myself. haha! That definitely sound selfish but i just want time to stop and let me enjoy them for a little more.. privately without the whole world making it into a hype and i'm afraid hollywood will turn it into something without a "soul"! you get what i mean? i hope i'm wrong though.. for my own sanity! =)

When i first saw this picture I thought it was fake. When I realised that it was real I freaked out. It looks sooooooo creepy. First of all Edwards hair looks horrible, it looks dirty and its not even that light in the movie. and the whole blowing shirt/ chest thing is just not Edward. And seriously Bella is not a supermodle, shes saposed to be an average girl, a plain Jane. I do have to say that EW probably didn't read the series and knows very little about Twilight so it kind of makes sense that they did what they did. And I really liked the apple.

It actually makes sense!! the picture itself portrays the love between edward and bella. But it's obvious that this is based on Edward's perspective: remember guys??

Edward sees himself as a monster, and sees his Bella as a gorgeous woman, like she's the only woman in the world. So.. yah! I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

Okay, dramatic enough to be awesome but his chest is gross-like because it's nasty-looking and hairy and just plain "Eww!" And Bella looks like the vampire because they made her like a model. Ugh, they really are messing Edward up! (He looks more like a werewolf than a vampire) Robert looked better in the pictures by the the 18 year old cute photographer than this one! Come on, people, it's Hollywood! You're supposed to make people look good not nasty!

Kudos to you for finding it. I don't like chest hair but in this picture chest hair looks sexy.
And usually Robert can't do sexy but in this picture and in the ones taken by the young photographer he can.

I think the photographer wanted to exaggerate this whole thing to the extreme: my first thought looking at this was, like you Larry; a 'Fabio' romance novel. I think that was the idea, actually...I don't think this picture is at all an indication of what they'll look like on camera. Wait a second--we ALREADY KNOW what they will look like on camera! We've seen clips! This is doing its job as a magazine cover; to catch people's eye. I like the whole thing they're going for..

I personally love the cover! I think Robert looks hauntingly striking and gorgeous and Kristen looks stunning! & I love that they went for a dramatic, fantasy like effect with it, instead of just "dolling" them up a bit like they usually do for photo shoots. Obviously they are portraying them as Edward and Bella but then at the same time they aren't. Yes, Edward is a pale vampire but he is not described as that rough and "dead" looking in the books and Bella is not described as being that sexy in the books or at least just not sexy in the way she is portrayed here, but the point here isn't to pinpoint their looks exactly to how they are described in the books, the point is to grab your attention and give them a dramatic, fictional and fantastical look. This picture is gracing the cover of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY people!! That means hundreds even thousands of more people will now know about Twilight and it may now grow to have just as large a fan base as Harry Potter. I know many of my fellow Twilighters are distraught over this cover, claiming that it is not what the two characters are supposed to look like at all, but again that is the point in a way. For those that no nothing of Twilight, this cover tells them with just a simple photo. There are no need for words to tell people that Edward is a vampire in this picture and that Bella is his love interest. I really think the fans should just calm down a bit and get over it! Stop all the negativity! This is not what they will look like in the film, and we Twilighters of all people should know that by now! This is merely just a piece meant to grab your attention, promote both the movie and the books and convey all the drama, fantasy, and thrill that is Twilight. Also, for you other Twilighters out there, if you think about it this cover is amazing because it kind of captures how Edward sees things! Edward sees Bella as the most beautiful, alluring, and wonderful girl in the world and he sees himself as this dark, evil, DEAD being, and he doesn't understand why Bella loves him. & I think this picture captures that mentality and view that Edward has perfectly! This cover is incredible! We should be thrilled that our beloved Twilight is getting so much attention because it means more goodies and inside scoops for us, and just more of Twilight in general!!! Stop fussing. Stop complaining. The cast, crew, MTV, and many other people are working their butts off to deliver to us fans as much as they can! We should appreciate that! Not tear down all their hard work! Again, I love this cover. It truly is a great piece of art and story teller. I look forward to seeing the Twilight fandom grow immensely after this!

EW! He looks like he just crawled out of a grave or something, and his hands look like hes been playing in the dirt. i know hes a vampire, BUT they should have followed along with the image they are portraying in the movie. his hair doesnt look the same,his eyes look sickly, and they should have kept his shirt buttoned because it doesnt look like hes in as great of shape edward would be in, and hes hairy. YET for some reason he doesnt look like any of those things when onset for the movie-he looks gorgeous, which is how hes suppose to look.

*gag* what went so wrong with this pic? i mean it makes bella and edward look so ugly. if they look in anyway like this in the movie i will throw popcorn and the screen. first of all bella looks like she is 30. i mean come on she is 18 not a 30 year old love icon. i am so, so disappointed. how could EW even think they could pull this cover off. and edward i dont even want to look at the pic he is just so ugly! and whats with the gross looking 5:00 shadow on him, it doesn't even look at all good. if i had never read the book and loved it and i was looking at this magazine for the first time ever hearing about this book i would walk away never wanting to read this book.

At first galnce this cover seemed to be quite amazing...but then I looked closer :(
Edward's hair is nearly orange! And they have really strayed from the original characters; Bella would never have been so glamourous and Edward was a lot more natural and a lot less creepy!
Let's hope that they look a lot better in the movie otherwise our expectations are going to be crushed!
This is a hard movie to film and it involves having to cast really hard characters to look like and act as...let's hope they can pull it off!

ohhh my good poor robert he is supossed to be these god-a-like beyond good looking vamp and ends looking nothing but that, why did his people let that one slip!!!!!!! and ok so they had to glam it up a bit 4 it to be hollywood merchandise but hey its soposed to represent the hole twilight goodness insted it looks like that were trying to make one of those fabios novels cover (ewww),kristen in other hand looks really good nothing like bella's personality but ok and i must say that clearly Entertainment Weekly should hire Tori ... can someone send her version to EW!!!!!! And then Bella...
Her outift, her expression, her pose. She looks like an adult film star! Bella would never wear that kind of makeup or just stare of finto space while the love of her life is holding her.

This looks like the cover of a smutty romance novel about a pasty pirate and his showgirl lover. I dont even think that the artist who envisioned this layout read a detailed enough summary of the book (obvi he/she didnt read the books at all because these looks dont even resemble Bella and Edward's characters). I will say that I'm glad they included an apple though. Also, if anyone is reading this comment who has a say in the soundtrack for the movie, can you please include Iris by the Goo Goo dolls into a dramatic love scene? the lyrics, and the emotions that the song conveys, tell the Twilight story.
